Bikes: I have 2 of them,1 with fat tires & 1 with skinny tires & A Ninja 650

30g vs 8g = the winner is a sexy black 30g video i have one & i just keep adding music to it. the video part is neat dont use it that much but have the aristocrats on there. i dont have to reach into my wallet to show pics of my boys. I love mine. nanos are cute for girls... 30g videos with big HD for big boys & the first thing i thought when i was going to buy a new one was i should wait till a new one comes out not a good idea & i-tunes no problem yet. also stepped over to the dark side and bought an imac. so i'm the mac daddy. well my wife is. she gets the imac. i get the pc.

...and what Wes says.

Cheers

I got my kona smoke today. Its nice to be able to ignore curbs and stuff. I need to get a proper crankset for it because the triple cranks on it suck for singlespeed and keep jumping. V-brakes seem to have a kind of on-off modulation; it would be really easy to endo on this bike if I squeezed the levers a little too hard!

Woo! We match now. You are so ready for the Leslie Spit snow ride.

We had a nice ride tonight, the Curbside Gang. We even boarded a ship down at the harbor before the cops came. Big fun.

New v-brakes and pads make for instant stopping. What is the problem with the crank? The chain is jumping off? If thats the case probably a crooked chainline and ramped chainring. Hit the wrong spot and off goes the chain even with a singlator. Any pics yet?

No pics yet. Maybe after the weekend. The cog is mounted outboard a bit so that it lines up with the big outside chainring. It seems to work alright but its way too high a gear. When I put the chain on the middle ring the chainline+ ramped chainrings are enough that the chain skips a tooth every now and then.

I don't think durability enters the equation, personally. At the end of the day for the same price you're either getting 8gb in a tiny package or 30gb is a small package. I don't see the difficulty in choosing personally. I guess it also depends on your listening habits though.. if you tend to just listen to certain albums a lot, maybe the nano would be fine. I'm constantly jumping all around my entire library however, and I only keep full albums. So therefore the 30gb was no contest. Battery life has never been a problem for me. I plug it in every night when I get home.. If I forget, it lasts me through the next day (with my listening habits anyway). I've never really used it for video either, but having that option certainly isn't a negative.

Also, Apple releases a new updated ipod every 6 months or so. If you're afraid of the latest and greatest coming out and making yours "obsolete" then you'll never get anything. Why buy 2007 campy parts.. 2008 is going to be "Better"! I still have a 1st gen 5gb ipod here that works just fine (all that bad press about crappy ipod batteries be damned.. it keeps going and going...). The only reason *I* upgraded was for the extra capacity. And you know what? iTunes 7 works just fine with it, and iTunes 8, 9, and 10 probably will too, because Apple are Good People.

So yeah, the only benefit I can see from the nano is umm.. maybe the slightly better battery life? The video is portable enough for a jersey pocket, durable enough for me to repeatedly drop it on a low-pile carpet over concrete floor at work and have it keep rocking, enough battery life to last a couple days of regular listening in a pinch, and 3.75x more capacity.

</end apple shill>

edit: definitely my longest bikeforums post evar. I'm such a ****ing nerd. Keith, I'm likely going to come by tomorrow so if you have any questions for me feel free to fire away.
Thanks for the advice guys. Nice to get the scoop from neutral parties (except you Wes..we all know you are "Apple for Life" ) A friend of mine informs me he has a hookup for a wholesale deal on I-Pods. I am going to get the 30gig vid (the prospect of having most of my music library in it is too tempting to pass up)and if I save enuf $ wholesale perhaps a Shuffle to complement it. Thanks again.K.

I totally read this page faster than I have ever read a bf page. I noticed the phrases "buy 2007 campy parts" and "shoplifters with baseball bats", but thats about all I drew from it.

hahah.. actually, I'm not that big of a mac nerd and it's more of a recent thing. I'll admit I actually like a lot of things about pc's and even some microsoft products (gasp). But when something works well, I recommend it. I'm good with the word of mouth advertising..

Speaking of which, that guy I sent you way for the Campy derailleur a while back dropped by my office this week to thank me for the referral and rave about how happy he was about it.

Bikes: The Brown Beast

Get into work this morning, sit down, boot up the computer, open email and web. Read email from nintendo saying that they are recalling all 3.2m Wii controller straps. Wonder what the world is coming too when people get so into Wii bowling they are smashing their tvs...

haha I find this entry funny. Parts I particularly like:

"It is 3 years old but is practiacally new.
Has been housed outside so has some minor rust"

"It is a Man's bicycle but sized for a woman or a child."

"Please reply to this posting!"

Its a bicycle of paradoxes!

Try moving the cog in a bit further, I have a bunch of spacers of various sizes lying around you can have if you want.

If anyone is interested, I am going to sell one of my mtb s/s wheels. Have a sun rim with an lx hub 14t non ramped cog, and a mavic rim, sealed axiom s/s hub with a 15t iro cog threaded on. Prices are good, esp for BF memmbers.

Korea town is sooooooo nice now, Bloor just became my favourite route to work again. Up until Beverly or so, then I turn off. It is really tight up there with all that ROM construction; I can't figure out if I like the new addition or hate it.
