What's up with the spoke wires at the cross?
What does that do?

Bikes: A bunch

I think the wire wrapped around where the spokes cross makes the wheel stiffer.

Lots has been written on the topic of tying and soldering. I have been doing this to wheels for over 10 years. The practice itself goes much farther back. While not scientifically provable I have found tied wheels to feel stiffer. Also I have found it to greatly increase the life of a wheel. You are effectively making the outside spoke crossing the flange. The only downside is no spoke cards
Oh yeah....D.t. makes both tying wire and solder for this purpose. Gerd Schraener, wheelbuilding guru, also advocates its use. Jobst Brandt, scientist, does not. I will take the advice of the guy who has built wheels for decades for many World Champions over the scientist any day.

From what I have read it started with big wheelers and bone shakers, because if you broke a spoke it could fling around and cause crashes or injury. Tying and soldering keeps broken spokes in place.

And you sure can use spoke cards. You just have to tape them on! I prefer GI Joes to spoke cards anyways.

That half link is crazy hot. And I really like how the tying and soldering looks as well. I'm surprised there's not more hard evidence of it being better. It makes sense that it would make the wheel stiffer.

Worst. Crap. Ever.

Except for the hockey helmets and masks. That was just stupid. Actually everything was stupid. See point 1 again.

Any show I enjoy I just get on bittorrent. I find it really odd that most people don't do that. Whenever I go home for the holidays I'm astounded at how much **** most people have to wade through just to watch a show. Of course, I have no idea what new shows are on, but by the time I find out about the latest/greatest, I can just download the whole first season in one go and have at it.

I am not gifted concerning computers. That being said I had Shamil show me what to do with it today at the safety meeting. Downloaded itunes, got a usb charger. Everything works great I guess because, I don't know how to actually work anything yet.

I hear that. I got rid of my tv over 2 years ago now and never looked back. Much to the chagrin of my bosses at the tv station.

Anyone goin' out for a spin today?

Anyone know who sells kool stop pads in town? I'm looking for salmon cantilever (no-thread stud) to be specific.
