Toronto is gonna be rep'd

operator 02-08-06 09:04 PM

For polishing your forks, pampers don't do it. You need to buy huggies.

i'm just checking but are you guys scooping up the local steel gaspipe for ss/fix projects or do you guys stick to your new lite frames? check this link, is this right? i posted that earlier, are vintage steel gaspipers cool? http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...14#post2151614
how is the market for old steel with the toronto ss/fix gang, is $80-$100 right for a frame? or is this ridiculous?

No, but old parts boxes are definitely worth that sort of money.

operator 02-09-06 12:56 AM

$80 - $100 seems a bit too much for a used frame.

garage sales are a huge goldmine.
I got my benotto for $20 bucks from one.
Just drive (gasp) or ride around on saturday mornings and you'll be sure to soon find a deal.

TRaffic Jammer 02-09-06 08:06 AM

20 buck?!!!!! *faints*

so.. you're probably not looking for the cannondale anymore eh. or you could give the benotto to me and keep looking for the cannondale. there's an idea.

cavit8 02-09-06 10:17 AM

The Toronto Police Auctions are heinously over-priced. I've seen nice old raleighs put out for the garbage. Once spring hits and people start cleaning out the garages, keep your eyes peeled. Prime neighborhoods are anywhere that people have more money than brains and the older folks are downsizing before moving to condos: leaside, rosedale, forest hill etc.

Yeah, I went to the City of Toronto auction down at the Ex a couple of times last year and it was ridiculous. People were driving the price of really lousy SportTek bikes up into the hundreds of dollars. If it was sorta new looking and had front suspension, it hit 150$. I picked up an old Schwinn cruiser for 17$ because it was not flashy.

The best deal I ever got was a Kona Fire Mountain Lite for 10$ at a TTC auction. Dinged toptube, but it is the best beater bike ever.

sr20det 02-09-06 03:16 PM

haha. well the benotto is a road bike... and thats for the Toronto donut ride hahahah!
and... i'm working out a deal for the cannondale :)
Hopefully it'd be set in stone this weekend.
shiz, and I'm still waiting on some parts to arrive at the shop to finish off my first. --_--;

oh, if your looking for used road frames, whydoncha ask cavernmech to hook you up?
just keep it up with the garage sale hunting :)
there is tons to be had.

gokiburi 02-09-06 04:10 PM

about the "riding fixed" reprint thread:

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=172675

we should pool our orders together to save on shipping if anyone wants a copy. i just want to see what the hell it is.. hmm, but at roughly $10US a pop.....
not sure if the guy's taking orders or if he's getting a feel for the demand.

So very, very right. Anytime I go home to visit the family I always get up early on Saturday and check out the garage sale listings. My home town is still a sacred land where if someone's selling something old, they sell it for cheap (as opposed to Toronto where old suddenly becomes "vintage" with a price mark-up). There's even some small farming communities in the area that do community wide garage sales over the course of the summer. Bike shopping w/ $20 in your pocket is a great way to spend a morning. :)

TRaffic Jammer 02-09-06 05:59 PM

To the messer I came upon at King a bit past River.... I wasn't trying to be a dick, I was about to open my mouth and speak and you were called a la dispatch, so I gave you the back wheel that you took for a few blocks. To the messers, I don't ride all day anymore so if you come upon me .... my back wheel is your back wheel.

operator 02-09-06 06:32 PM

Wtf?

TRaffic Jammer 02-09-06 06:34 PM

I rode by I was gonna say hi but got interrupted by his radio. Didn't wanna be a rude ****er, you know? :p Back to your regular programming.

I plan on taking a frame to Spectrum sometime this month or early next month.

If anyone else is thinking the same thing and has a vehicle, please get in touch. I'll pay for gas (both trips) if it means I don't have to streetcar > subway > bus my ass out to the middle of nowhere and back twice.

somnambulant 02-10-06 06:15 AM

eyefloater 02-10-06 06:30 AM

here is the listing for the ciocc track frame:

Track Frame
Steel Track Frame and Forks, never used! Still brand new. Chiocc frame with Columbus chrom-alloy track forks. Will sacrafice for $450.00
Price: $$450.0

.... sounds kinda queer to me.
but Ciocc and Track frame and never used. oh mother, I gotta check it out!

there's also a soma rush frameset on canadian cyclist. real pricey though.

Eyefloater, you have finally forced me out of my secretive lurking hole. Sirrobinofcoxly and I were going to take our stripped frames to Spectrum on Monday. But actually we don't have a car either, so I guess I didn't have to come out of my hole after all. Bikeforums class field trip!
