People are on their own for that bit. I suggest downloading a spoke length calculator. I used the DT swiss chart to measure them out. I'll have already calculated and selected the spoked when I get there.

Thinking is nothing. Doing is everything. But I think it might help the understanding of wheels more. It would also help truing practice.

I'll be doing lacing (helps when replacing a spoke), tensioning, fixing hops and wobble while building (helpful for fixing actual hops and wobbles) and that sort of stuff. I'll also outline all the mistakes to watch out for that I learned while building my first few wheels.

Cycle Therapy's been doing the same thing, just clearing out all the '06 stuff before all the "new shiny" comes in. Bikes at cost, apparel at cost, etc. ... at this point in the year it's basically just money of our's that's sitting there on the sales floor when it could be doing something useful. Gotta get rid of it for what we paid so we can have access to that cash again. It's basically just a move to increase cash flow in the off season and get rid of the stuff that won't be perceived as "the latest and greatest" come spring.

I'm just gonna toss this out there, but bike polo - anyone playing in Toronto? Anyone want to?

I would like to! I should add a caveat to that as well: I have no experience . What are the requirements for a polo bike? If I don't have something suitable, right now I'm not in a position to be getting another bike.

Requirements, not so much ... just put together a mallet and you should be good to go (apparently ski pole + random wacking bit works well). I've never played either, and I don't think anyone around will be sitting the bar very high.

A disposable set of wheels is whats required for polo....we used to play in MTL over 20 years ago. Virtually everyone who has played has folded at least one front wheel. Other than that wear your helmet....a mallet to the back of the heard or the face isn't unheard of either. Gets a little rough on the pitch. Smaller frames = better one handed control.

Bikepolo?

Form a team, the BF or whatever you name it team and start gathering gear & practicing.

There will be a series to compete in this spring/summer, with one of the highlights including a city-partnered bikepolo tourney during Bikeweek 2007 featuring teams from Canada & the US, including the formidable machine from Ottawa, which boasts the current North American champion team.

I think it looks silly as hell, but a lot of silly looking things are fun to play, so I'm going to try it, maybe even sober, & if it's fun I'll be playing too.

If you guys seriously want to play I'll be sure to post contact info etc as it becomes available. The Bikeweek event dates & venue will be established within the next few weeks.
