3/32 on 1/8 stuff = no go. 1/8 on 3/32 FTW

Oh man... glad you're not dead. Go team! Do you have any cool bruises? I've got a huge one on my arm that I've been entertaining people with for the last couple days. But seriously. Really glad to hear you're unscathed.

I took the corner really freakin' fast and i went just a bit wide and the van was pretty close to the lane. Hence we kind of side-swiped each other.

The driver/passenger were really really nice about it, as was the bike cop who was on scene. The driver said to me "Wow you were going really really fast and then when you went down it looked like you knew what you were doing because you kind of tucked and rolled and seemed to do a good job of minimizing impact!"

I need to get my front wheel trued and I'm going to come see you in a bit Keith just to make sure my bike won't turn into a fine mist the next time I giv'r. The van that hit me is WAY worse off! The side panel has a HUGE man-shaped dent and there's a nice long scratch from my handlebars (some bullhorns I just got off Toby this weekend).

If I had just jumped into a pool I wouldn't have been anymore wet than I was when I just got home. Not to mention the fact that the wind + rain really really hurt on my sunburned arms. Broken rear fender + leaving raingear at home FTL.

Offhoff 04-23-07 03:22 PM

I got home and literally as I was standing in my bathroom taking a shower afterwork the thunder started. I was so happy not to be out there. Wind or rain alone Ok together, no thanks.

This weather needs a mood stabilizer.

That's a fun hill, I managed to get up to 80 km/h going down it.

I could only keep that speed for a second before I had to slow down to avoid heading onto queen at full speed though. :D

I'm glad that everyone is okay after their car encounters.

TRaffic Jammer 04-23-07 03:42 PM

Man....from can't see across the street to clear in 45 minutes.....talk about having weather as opposed to climate.

ok not quite fixie or SS related but does anyone know when Albion opens for the season? It nice to switch up the riding on the weekend and Albion really is pretty fun. With enough peer pressure I might be convinced to fork out for a proper bike rack so i can load up the car with bikes AND riders this year...

If there is anything this board is good for its peer pressure.

No help for your actual questions, though I can attest that drinking beers before eating food is not the best idea after a day of biking if you want to be sober.

They open tomorrow for their weekly series so I assume they are open for the season. I go there very often...keep me posted as I will you.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours (bruises). Actually I have more in the way of scrapes. I have a bruise/road rash on my left hip but it isn't too colourful yet.

If it doesn't offend you, it doesn't offend me. How could a bicycle offend me? It doesn't spout racial epithets does it?

somnambulant 04-23-07 04:50 PM

mine is offensively urbanite as well.. keith grimaces, but he works on it anyway. or maybe it's all in my head because it's so *****hauled. :P

TRaffic Jammer 04-23-07 04:52 PM

It's not the bikes' fault afterall.

Wow I can't believe they managed to do that in sao paolo, if only for a short while. Advertising is considered a god-given right around here. Speaking of advertising, Hey Keith I sent one of my Tai Chi teachers your way for her 'spring tuneup'. I'd probably expect the worst!

I dont know about the "cranial therapy" but I do know that everyone who goes to her rave about the results. I can count 10 Elite Ontario road cyclists off the top of my head who use her services.

Cheers for sending em my way. Also for the warning. :D I highly doubt it is worse than some of the rigs I have had in here so far this year. One example...stripped steerer/headset, destroyed B.B, broken rear hub axle, stuck seatpost, 10 broken spokes on the rear wheel, 2 rear sprockets missing 4 or more teeth and a chain rusted beyond belief. They actually rode this bike in to the shop. I couldnt believe it. Then the inevitable " Can I get this by the end of the day?" When I quoted the cost they changed their mind.

Shiznaz 04-23-07 05:56 PM

I thought you were describing 10 different customers!
I guess I can't complain about my temporarily stuck bb and 2.5mm wobble in my rear wheel

cavit8 04-23-07 06:05 PM

"But advertising and business groups regard the legislation as injurious to society and an affront to their professions. They say that free expression will be inhibited, jobs will be lost and consumers will have less information on which to base purchasing decisions. They also argue that streets will be less safe at night with the loss of lighting from outdoor advertising."

That's an affront to anyone's intelligence. The only information I want is how "Probe" relates to a mattress
http://cavit8.clawz.com/images/billboard.jpg

And since when is advertising expression "free"? Decreased safety due to decrease light from billboards Oh, ha ha ha!

And Somna, massage therapists often do more than one kind of therapy. I kind of stare at the ceiling when people start talking about cranial therapy myself, but give her a shout and see if she does sports-injury massage or variants like Active Release Therapy.

I've been training on the hills in the beaches, and I'd venture to say that Scarborough road is not only the steepest hill in the area, but perhaps in the city? Google Earth elevation data doesn't seem to be accurate enough, as it shows the same thing for all of the parallel streets.

I personally got to know that hill the first time when I was moving into the area a while back.. Queen was closed for streetcar repairs, and Scarborough road was the only street open to cross through. So... I got to drive a fully loaded U-Haul down it - good times!
