Well yeah... if you pay for the express shipping 1-2 business days! UPS standard on this one appears to be $10.76. UPS from the states is risky anyway though you can get hit with some nasty "brokerage fees". You don't get hit every time but when you do, speaking from personal experience, it sucks.

Yeah that's the idea. Well the chiropractor said that doing one or two days in a row of work followed by a recovery day or two would actually help my knee get stronger as opposed to working five days straight which is much harder on the ol' body. I don't think I could go three whole days without hammering it :) Riding during my recovery days isn't a problem according to him, as it would be unlikely that I would ride anywhere near as much as I do during a work day, although going on a 80km ride on a wednesday off would maybe negate the recovery effect a bit :D The idea is that during my recovery days I am comparitively taking it easy. His advice (and orthotics) have worked wonders because my knee is PERFECT now finally!!

Just a good ol' fashioned case of wobbly-patella-bad-kneepcap-tracking-itus. There is a proper medical name that I always screw up/invert. It's something along the lines of femoral patella-something-or-other. In my case it was actually caused by my bad feet. Exercise and stretching helped a lot but orthotics to suppport my collapsing arches essentially cured it.

I really hate words, but damn you have to admit that bike looks awesome with the design on it. I'm not a huge connoiseur of the arts but I do like stuff that's aesthetically pleasing / pure ownage.

There was a bit of discussion a couple of weeks ago about ordering from Nashbar with that free shipping code, has anyone received their stuff? I just got mine and there is an invoice with a shipping and handling fee. When I ordered online there was no mention of it, this must mean that the free shipping didn't apply to Canada. The stuff is still cheap but what a bummer, us Canucks always get the screwjob!

edit: Just got the phone and yeah, no free shipping to Canada. It would have been nice if that had been mentioned on the website and I informed the woman of this. If I hadn't already unwrapped the 105 brakes and determined that they kickasss, I would return them, oh well. It is still much cheaper but not as great a deal as I had initially hoped for.

Umm.... guys... fellow Torontonians... I got a question for you that's not related to fixies, but I hope you forgive me. Does anyone know where I could rent a tandem bike in Toronto? My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and I had an idea of a tandem ride as part of the plan, but I don't know if it's doable. The only place that rents tandems in Toronto seems to be the Island Rentals, and they are not going to be open for a couple more months anyway. There is also a place in the East end that rents "historical" bikes to the media and they have a 30's tandem, but I doubt they'd let me have it just for a few hours for a friviolous birthday spin.

So, does anyone know of any place I overlooked in my search? Or maybe you even know an individual who owns a tandem and would be willing to make a few bucks by renting it to a very careful cyclist that is myself? *sigh* Probably not, but at least I tried. :)

I seem to remember seeing a booth at the bike show for a place that rented out tandems but I can't remember for sure.

If that old tandem is from Cogs it is fixed...perhaps not the best choice. Warren Cycle Works on Queen East has an old CCM cruiser bike tandem in the window...it is certainly not new so he might be willing to rent it out. Be forewarned though...the guy in there is a bit surly and can be hard to deal with. You may want to try Sandy's Cycle up on Laird...they are tandem specialists and might have something for you to rent. Maybe try a Craigslist ad...someone out there prolly has one they would be willing to rent.

Yep, that's the one. So I was not so off-topic after all! :) You're right, however: I'd ride fixies and tandems separately, but they are a combination to be considered with caution.

Cool; I know that place! I worked in a cycling camp that ran nearby last summer and we took kids for a sort of a field trip there on a rainy day once. Seemed like friendly folks, actually.
