See here's how I see it.
Hong Kong is like a family with old money. They've had it for so long they can't remember what it would be like to be without it. So, while totally over the top and extravagant, it somehow seems normal when your there.
The emirates (Dubai, Quatar, UAE etc) are like new money, so amazed that they have it that they have to show just how much they have ALL the time.
I wouldn't mind all this if I didn't live in a city that feels like the ******** brother who needs an assistant to get dressed.

I liked the duty free in Columbo, Sri Lanka. Only place I've seen fridges and washing machines at a duty free.

16 carats in diamond would be close to 3 mil depending on cut quality and clarity

Give it a rest. Its impossible to estimate how much it would cost. It could be 100 .16 carat diamonds which would not go for 'that much' or it could be two 8 carat diamonds or one 16 carat diamond that could easily go for millions. They don't say though so put your dick back in your pants.
Also keep telling your dad to buy your mom more bling. Takes attention away from her face. Diamonds are the biggest scam on earth.

I'd buy those, but I don't have a geared bike anymore. Interesting accessory here:

I know, thats why I find it funny when people brag about how much they spend on diamonds. Hooray, you're getting some dudes in Antwerp unbelievably rich wasting your money on a product with artificially inflated prices that is useless in your application. I am waiting for when they perfect diamond generation so debeers can be forced out of business for good. They have made incredible 10 carat 'artificial' (still 100% authentic) diamonds, so its not far away. Then we can use diamonds excessively for industrial purposes and tools and actually make use of their amazing hardness and other physical properties.
Diamonds are trashy in my opinion. Put them on saw blades!

There are currently two startups in Florida manufacturing Diamonds..Wired back issue somewhere.
Can't be told from the real thing as they are the real thing. the market they want though is diamond based computer processors as opposed to silicone....thus bringing us upto the kind of clock speeds that will really bring the Information age to fruition...worth more than bling in the long run.. They are trying to figure out now how to "grow" them in sheets.

They are already trying to differentiate their product by extolling the virtues of diamonds "au naturel". Bastards should die in a fire.

That just reminded me of the crazy nanotech in Idoru by gibson. Those little bastards were building entire cities that constantly reconfigured themselves. Pretty sweet. I need to read more cyberpunk. All i have right now is a selection of short stories and excerpts by PK Dick

Stephenson's vision of a nanotech embedded world is complete and fantastically detailed.
