To all the folks wanting to hit the Don tomorrow...I don't think i will be able to go. If the temperature continues to be below zero I will have to pass. I froze my lungs once already this winter and I cant risk doing it again. For me -temps + oxygen debt = unable to ride for 2 weeks. Feel free to rally here if ya want...I am gonna wheel build all day if its still too cold.

I might still go if I feel up to it in the morning. If anyone still wants to go and you don't have my phone #, pm me.

trafficjammer: odd that you say that since I was diagnosed with tendinitis in my shoulder yesterday.

Man, IMHO there is nothing worse. I think that's why I still have a tendency to overdress... doc told me once cartilage can freeze/damage <15C. So no more... "woohooo..first day of shorts at 8 degress" for me.

Nice link Shizy.... I'm sure SOMEONE had to have tried it.

re: tendinitis. I make absolutely sure my elbows and knees are warm enough before I go for a ride. I'm usually out the door and on my bike not long after I wake up so my blood hasn't really got a chance to circulate and warm up my tendons yet. There were a few rides earlier in the winter where my elbow tendons and knees really started to ache so now I just deal with being all sweaty when I get to work. I don't have too much of a problem with frozen lungs though...

I've done the lung thing..... I couldn't walk into a warm building afterwards without coughing and hacking up a lung (figuratively), nor could I spin up to speed for fear of taking a deep breath. Made working on my bike suck large for like a month.

I didn't know you could get frozen lungs! One day last winter I rode into work and when passing Bloor and Spadina I noticed the temp was -40.

Thankfully no damage happened, but boy was it cold!

You can freeze the lining by Hoovering(tm'd verb) frozen air in. You really have to be sucking air though. You can do it to your sinus cavity as well.

That was exactly it....a casual spin in -40 is no problem. As soon as I start givin' er' thats when I have problems.
I-herald: I will be around till at least 6...give me a ding if you are gonna be later than that...i can stick around.

ps. Keith, I gotta get out for a ride with you ASAP. I'm away most of next week and for the weekend (11-15th) but after that I'd like to get in a couple of weeknight rides and another weekend ride before Paris-Ancaster.

*fingers crossed for warm and, more importantly, dry weather*

If there's ONE useful thing my old, over-priced physio doctor taught me, it's to be damn careful about covering your knees (and elbows) in anything less than warm weather. I used to run 10k+ everyday, no matter what. I was one of those crazy people you see running in two feet of snow. That is, until my knees basically stopped working. My physio doc showed me a video of an athlete training in cold weather with temp readings all over his body. While his muscles stayed above 37*, his joints got as low as 22*, which is very dangerous, because they're isolated from all the warm blood and not shielded from the elements, esp. wind. Cycling really uses your knees, and if they're cold and stiff you can easily build up scar tissue around your knee, which is very difficult to break down. If you let it build up enough, eventually the muscles attached to the knee joints will not function properly, until you're unable to get up a flight of stairs pain-free unless you literally crawl (I am not exaggerating here).

Cover your knees with insulated, WIND-PROOF covers! Even under normal pants or tights.

Alright.. I have no idea what you guys are using to take music back off the ipod though, so hopefully you're knowledgeable of such things. Speaking of which, when IS the next meeting? I mean, on account of the holiday tomorrow.

Yeah, I remember driving past Pho Bich Nga when I was in Vancouver with my old band in 2000. We all saw it at the same time and conversation just stopped.. then we nearly drove off the road laughing.

Also: This Girl Talk album is hurting my brain. I need to see this guy live. Best. Party. Ever.

Everyone loves a good mashup.

He just had "Three Six Mafia - Gotta Stay High" (had to google that one) playing over top of "1979 - Smashing Pumpkins", with a bangin' beat... which then morphed into some "Little Lies - Fleetwood Mac". Then back into some other ridiculous Southern hiphop. Ow.

ps. good for a larf: https://www.cjsw.com/music/best_of_2006.html?id=21

Holding out on us huh? If you have a pod bring it next time. If not perhaps a disc of your personal faves? I am lucky to listen to what I want all day...the downside is I quickly run out of new stuff to listen to.
Thats letting you know if there is any confusion
