I think they mean casual as in it has a floppy sole and no cleat attachment. Basically if you like the look of space slippers, but don't want to walk around like a space robot. They are officially sidi 'free time' shoes.

I_bRAD 05-01-07 04:07 PM

I thought you were supposed to go biking in your "free time"

I guess if you want the funny look of cycling shoes, but don't want to commit to the funny walk then they're perfect! Kind of like secretly wearing lycra under your normal clothes.

somnambulant 05-01-07 04:29 PM

unnnghghngnn.. that's hot! ;)

as for riding, probably around 5:30 at the trailhead @ pottery rd? I'll update once it's confirmed.

That seems pretty expensive for a steel bike, assuming that by "polished" the person means "chromed", even if it is a Reparto Corse. A NOS frame/fork on eBay went for about 400$USD a few months ago. Eight speed Campy is nice but also pretty old, roughly 8 years or so, right?

operator 05-01-07 04:45 PM

And the problem is finding 8 speed campy replacement parts as it's compatible with nothing. It's hard enough finding 8 speed campy cassettes for my lame-o rear wheel.

jet sanchEz 05-01-07 04:59 PM

I just remembered an auction I am watching and I think it is the same one that iherald found on Canadian Cyclist: Bianchi

If that is it, he'll never get 1200$CDN for that on eBay; he will be lucky to get 600$CDN.
edit: my bad, that one on eBay is not a Reparto Corse, forget I mentioned it.

Chain Question: 1/8 or 3/32

Is one of these chain sizes considered the 'standard'?
Is there a reason to use once over the other?

Thanks

the pros and cons of either have been debated ad nauseum, but it pretty much boils down to preference. i usually buy 1/8" chains becuase goods ones are cheaper and track cogs typically come in 1/8". but to be honest i wouldn't think you would have a problem with either.

jeremywhitehorn 05-01-07 07:05 PM

wes, sorry i missed you at i deal; i was lazy and didn't leave for a ride until 1:00.

Typically 1/8 (thicker one) is for track/bmx, better suited for single speed, stronger.
3/32 (skinnier one) is for geared bikes mtb/road.
Depends what size cogs your running. my ring, cog & chain are 3/32 no problems so far, but i here bigger is better!

jeremywhitehorn 05-01-07 07:08 PM

so i stripped down the KHS i found yesterday and most of it is usable (even the XT derailleurs are in good shape) for a SS but it's missing a front wheel. anyone have an extra no-nonsense front MTB wheel they want a good home for? i have stuff to trade / minimal cash etc.

another question: i know there are issues with running V-brakes with drop bar levers; how can i get around that?
