I had been training to do it, but I wimped out because of the smog and heat. I had never done that kind of distance before, and figured the weather was a little too much-dangerous even.

The fast group came in with a pretty amazing time last year-I think it might be hard for me to hang with that group over such a long distance. They averaged over 32 km/hr, including all stops. I'd like to try this year, but I think I may end up getting dropped.

How much did you eat throughout the day? Did you carry food, or stop and eat?

A few Questions/Comments:

1) do the powdercoaters you speak of require the frame to be stripped?

2) Rancho Relaxo = nasty food. My old band played there once also.. :P First time playing in the GTA = Vans Warped Tour. Second time = Rancho Relaxo. Yay progress! ;)

3) Burrito Boyz is good.. but I'd also love to hit up Sneaky Dee's. That way we can get a table AND beer. Neither of which is available at B-Boyz.

Bikes on Wheels in Kensington market just got a bunch of MICHE stuff in (Hubs, BB, Chains, cranks). Hub sets from 2006 at $80. Ka-razy! Just to let you know. I may work there, but this is not a commercial. Just want you to kow that it's crazy deal.

I just had one of those "magic" rides home.

Timed every traffic light *perfectly* -- I'm about 5' from crossing the stop-line when it turns green.. cars haven't even started to move yet when I blow past.

Dressed perfectly -- not too warm, not too cold.

Rode at full tilt the whole way, but didn't get winded/tired at all.

Good Times! I just wish I didn't have to ride home to make dinner! :P

I hear ya, man. Cycle Therapy's slowly edging toward stocking some fixed gear/singlespeed options but it's definitely a tentative process, especially when the shop isn't known for such products (ala Cavern or Urbane). I'm still waiting for that first order to go in to EAI so I can finally stock up on some nice track parts. Dealing with the usual suspects (QBP, Lambert, J&B) has left me pretty frustrated.

Completely unrelated tangent, I'll probably be working at the shop this Saturday, but if not I'm down with getting on the bike for awhile and ending up at Sneaky Dee's.

Indeed I do. I was working part time at the old location, but starting I guess ... tomorrow, I'm full time at the new place. Which Lemond were you eyeing up? I'm a fan of the Poprad disc myself (cyclocross goodness). You should come by and shoot the **** for awhile sometime. All those brand-spankin'-new lounge chairs at the front aren't just there for my lazy ass. ;)

Here's your nifty tidbit of info for the day:

Powdercoating wood wouldn't work because the electrostatic charge wouldn't be able to happen, plus the wood couldn't handle the heat. I think the same two problems apply to carbon as well. From what I know, steel powder coats fine and aluminum also works really well. I read somewhere that it's best not to strip powder coating, as the process can fatigue the metal of your frame. You can, however, use an additive process to build up a fancy layered powdercoated result.

Oh, and you can actually get decals that can withstand the heat of the powder coating process (it's not "insanely" hot ... ~450-400 degrees). That way you could powder coat your frame, apply a decal and clear powder coat over top.
