In Memory of Coasting

We've lost another member of our forum family this week ... coasting. :( I'll leave it to @patentcad to fill in any details.

There is an ongoing conversation regarding this loss in the Addiction thread, but I thought he deserved his own thread, as well. Especially since this edition of the Addition thread will close shortly.

Feel free to post memories, links to threads coasting participated in, etc. And if you feel inclined to do your own memorial ride, as Velo Vol suggested in the Addiction thread, feel free to post about that here too ...

OK. Everyone plan to do a contemplative ride for coasting in the next week or so. Preferably with a few photos to show for it, as coasting was keen on photo ride reports.

Oh, I'm sad to hear. Godspeed, Coasting.

ravenmore 04-23-15 07:48 PM

Wow - wtf. No way. What happened to Coasting?

No precise details at this time. He had a history of heart trouble.

Velo Vol 04-23-15 08:26 PM

I completed my coasting memorial ride this evening. Pictures to come . . . later.

For those of you who may not know, coasting was an active member of this forum for many years. His death is quite unexpected, as he was only in his early 40s.

Little known coasting fact: he once had an imaginary beagle named Mutton.

A good shot of coasting's Merlin ...

Sad news, condolences to friends and family.

Very sad. His dry, impish sense of humor generated a lot of smiles.

Very sad, way too young. R.I.P. Coasting!

His sense of humor added so much to this forum. I really enjoyed seeing every one of his posts. He will be truly missed.

Well ****, that sucks.

Campag4life 04-24-15 08:39 AM

When I see something like this I am reminded how fragile life is and how all of us are just riding through for a relatively short time.
Sad news. I hope he was on his bike doing what he loved most.

Anybody here know coasting and can you give us a glimpse into who he was?

RIP...

bikecrate 04-24-15 08:59 AM

I was just looking at his picture of his bike standing by itself in the middle of a forest road. It almost takes on a secondary poignant meaning now.

Machka 04-24-15 09:00 AM

I think this was shortly after he moved to Taiwan ...

Another thread coasting started about a ride he did in Taiwan.

Rowan and I regret that we didn't catch up with him when we were there ...

I posted a photo of coasting's Merlin ... this is a thread about his titanium ...

Oh. Yes. I didn't see the giraffes at first. I wonder what kind they are.

TrojanHorse 04-24-15 10:22 AM

Early 40s! Yikes.

RIP Coasting.
