Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Crossing the lines

Would you put Bontrager parts on a Cannondale? or vice versa? Or is it sacrilege ?

I put a Specialized saddle and seatpost on my Ridley. Joaquim sent me a nasty email, but it was in French so I ignored it.

Sure.

I've even run Shimano pedals on Campagnolo cranks, and ridden Campagnolo gruppos while wearing jerseys with SRAM logos.

I do make sure the result is attractive. Regardless of manufacturer I avoid black anodized components which look bad with silver scratches and imitate carbon fiber the way laminated plastic flooring pretends to be wood, and even swapped the inner cage plate of my Record rear derailleur for a silver one.

Depends on the part....

Some parts the aesthetics are important and you want the colors/finishes to match. Others are more function and if you like brand "A" saddle then it's fine to put it on brand "B" bike.

No. I would never....but that's mainly because I haven't ever found a Bontrager branded part that I like. Apart from that...it's a bike. It's only redeeming value is you enjoy riding it. (TWSS).

It's only a sacrilege amongst 41ers with nothing better to do.

When looking for a better saddle than the one that came on my Madone the LBS suggested a Bontrager Paradigm RL. It comes with a "Unconditional Comfort Guarantee" so I could return it if not satisfied. It fit perfectly on the first ride and relieved the discomfort I had on my original saddle.

When i upgraded to a Emonda, i got a Paradigm RXXXL, same shape, same comfort, just lighter.

Bontrager carbon wheels are a very high quality and I would of gotten them, except the LBS gave me a killer price on a set of Zipp 303s which allowed me to get the bike with alloy wheels so i'll have 2 sets.

Don't hate for the sake of hating. Bontrager makes some very good stuff, but then so does a number of other companies.

Well said. Heaven forbid you post a photo of a bike in front of the obligatory white garage door to be scrutinized by the "experts" and told your parts don't match and to flip your stem (done by the fitting experts).

My bike is so cross branded right now I'd need to a jersey that went to my ankles to show all the logos if I was a sponsored pro.

Don't care. I like my bike.

I'm often prejudiced against products that have people's names on them. Now excuse me, I must go lube my (Gary) Klein! [O-K, I make exceptions for geniuses!]

Personally, I dont mix Campy & Shimano parts but thats a personal preference thing. I'd say if it works and doesnt look tacky go for it.
