To(e) overlap or not to(e) overlap, that is the question.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Interesting. I'm about 2 inches taller than you and ride the exact same bike, but in a 60. Shoes are 13. Don't have any toe overlap, unless I'm crazy.

Bikes: 2000 Klein Quantum

Newish rider (to road), OG (old guy), 6'1", 30" inseam (taller upper body). 46 shoes. 2000 Klein Quantum 55, 700cc/28's. Surprise surprise, discovered this "toe overlap" phenomenon on this morning's ride.

And, I'm a trouble maker, so I am enjoying firing up this thread again

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is cleat position, mine's set pretty far back towards my heel as I had read is good for short legs, tallish upper body. And, at the possibility of getting flamed, I will admit I'm riding in shimano mtb shoes and the toes may not be pointy but they certainly are not boxy.

Yes! An excuse to investigate a new shoe purchase.

Peace o/

Bikes: 2013 Cannondale Synapse 6 Tiagra + 2016 Cannondale CAAD 12 Dura Ace

Both of my 56 cannondales overlap, I thought it was just because I have big feet. I asked for some shoes in my shop and they acted like 47 was crazy.

6'1" rider, size 12 shoe, Cannondale R900, overlap.

It took me a few years to even notice it. Most all the time you never need to put your foot there with the fork turned like that.

What if it isn't because you need to put your foot there? What if you just do it, eh?

I don't understand the question. In the course of normal riding I never need to cross them. I guess my bars are never turned that far usually.

I have it on my 58 Tarmac, but only after moving my cleats back.

It isn't a problem when riding normally. At those times you steer with your weight, not by turning the front wheel. But when going very slowly through debris or starting a turn from a stop, you sometimes have the crank at 3:00 and the wheel turned.

I've somewhat recently learned to back/forward pedal with the foot that avoids overlap in tight and slowish speed turns.

That's how I have to also. I figure anyone with larger feet has this problem. Just something to be aware of
