Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Boyd Cycling

I got some wheels from Boyd Cycling last year. The front wheel appears defective, it seems a spoke is starting to pull through the wheel. I emailed Boyd and an hour and a half later he wrote back saying it is definitely covered, send the wheel back and they'll take care of it.

Damn, that's good customer service!

Awesome customer service, ordered everything over the phone. I just received my new set of Boyds this week, can't wait to test them out this weekend.

In stark contrast to neuvation, which cracked and failed on multiple spokes in less than 2 years and was told tough luck. Glad they went under, even though they are back now.

Not shocked at all. That was one of the main reasons I went with Boyd on my purchase.

That's why I bought Boyd as well, their reputation was earned and seems to be important to them.
Hope I never need to find out, but it's nice to know their there if I do.

Received my Boyd Altamonts yesterday and got out for some quick rides yesterday and today. Wheels feel planted, climb well and the hubs are great. Getting up off the saddle and riding hard is much easier now (recovering from ruptured patella). My bike shop had nothing but great things to say about Boyd's wheels. I am really loving these wheels and can't wait to really get on them this week/weekend.

Placed my my order directly with Boyd Cycling and had my wheels a few days later. Wheels arrived well packed and true. i am very happy with my purchase and the great customer service provided.

Wow, now I see why I hate vBulletin so much. This is my third time trying to reply with a pic, each time the post gets locked up.

Yup, that's why I bought from Boyd. Heard many great things about their service. Hoped I'd never need it, but I did and they came through.

Forgive my ignorance, but just curious.......

Are Boyd's Onyx brake pads good? I see a lot of folks around me with yellow brake pads on their carbon wheels but they're also telling me they're like $60!!! (Yikes!!!)

I know there are cheaper pads that are still very good but for $20, Boyd's seem extremely reasonable if they're any good.

They came with my wheels and they work great.

I bought my wheels during Boyd's black Friday sale (buy 44mm clinchers and get Altamonte free). Emailed him a bunch prior to buying and he was fast to respond with detailed responses. I used the Altamonts during the winter months and switched to the 44mm in March when it started getting warmer. These wheels are just awesome.

Here is a pic of my Domane with the 44mm clinchers

Here is a pic of my Emonda with the same wheels

How would you compare how the Altamonts ride compared to the 44mm carbon clinchers? I really struggled with my decision to go with the Altamonts or carbon wheels. Would you say the Altamonts roll fast? How are they when they get up to speed? Or, are the carbon wheels that much more superior? if so, how so?

Lucky you. I was like a week or two out of warranty when the same thing happened to my rear wheel. He didn't want to do anything about it and basically blamed anyone and everyone that touched the wheel

You can't go wrong with either wheel and the ride isn't that much different in my opinion. Both sets of wheels roll fast compared to the factory wheels. If i had to pick which ones roll better, I would say the carbon wheels do. That doesn't mean the Altamonts are bad by any means. They just don't roll the same as the carbon ones. It took several rides to get used to the 44mm wheels in gusty cross winds but i think that applies to all deep wheels regardless of the manufacturer. When i am up to speed, the carbon wheels are very compliant and feels like less effort is required to remain at speed.

We don't. . but if you look on the page in the navigation menu "custom" you will see a growing list of custom wheel builders we work with. They can use our rims and build with any spokes/hubs you would like.

Definitely good service because that doesn't necessarily sound like a defect but poorly tensioned/adjusted wheel
