Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You're already on the S5. If you can't back it up with your riding then you've already gone too far so might as well go all the way

I do a lot of Club rides and the club bans center arm rests not sure how they would react to this? Clearly I would not use them when on a club ride.

You can't use them in the club, don't use them at all.

Most importantly, don't look like a triathlete.

Clubs ban aero bars because of safety with group rides. These are drops that you run normal brifters on so I don't see how anyone could tell you you can't use them

Clubs can set any rules they like. If you don't like them, then don't join.

Aero bars are for TTs where you don't ride in groups. Being on the bars with people around you and on less then ideal roads can cause you to have control issues and take someone down with you.

It's totally different when you're on the road by yourself and have a clear view of the conditions and surface.

BTW... I assume a Cervelo S5 and not a Trek Emonda S5.

Yeah, might as well get those sleeveless jerseys if you're gonna go that route.

Those aren't really aero bars and they'd be safer than riding invisible aero bars which is common.

Your supposed to ride around the potholes not through them You would only rest your arms on those bars when you're out front.

Well... there's only one guy out front and the rest follow. It's hard enough to ride around the bumps and potholes with standard drop bars in a pack of 10-20 riders.

Aero bars are fine if you ride solo... or maybe very small groups.

You just don't have the same control as with drop bars.

Those are drop bars, they just have something out front to hang onto if you're riding with forearms on the tops.

There's a reason they are on clearance. If your reach/drop is set up properly, you won't be lower with your forearms on top than you will be in the drops. Is the purpose to ride narrower?

I keep a minimum safe distance from anyone running aero bars on group rides. I'd keep the same minimum safe distance from anyone running these on group rides.

Those look kind of clever. Not allowed in a race of course, but otherwise.

I do this if it is really windy and I'm pulling but it is kind of uncomfortable since my legs come all the way up to my chest in this position.
