Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Did you get a good look at it? I only took a quick glance, but I'm not so sure that there were actually spacers on it - I think that it was naked steerer.

That's even scarier. How would he have tightened his headset without spacers?

He could have put a section of PVC pipe on, then tightened the top cap and stem clamps, then carefully scored the PVC with a utility knife to remove.

It probably wasn't pre-loaded as much as it should have been, but it was plenty long enough to grab like a handle; I would guess that he pulled on the steerer while tightening the stem.

Again, this is all based upon one glance - RPK may have had a better look and it may have been covered in spacers.

Definitely. We were grateful we didn't have to play the game full-court. That would have spelled an early end of us.

Okay, I'll take your word for it - it was so horrific that I averted my gaze as as quickly as possible out of politeness, kinda like when someone has a big, unruly scar.

No, we exchanged high-fives when we crossed paths. But I did make the littlest ones jump up for it.

Funny, I never saw my two teammates again. They must have been still napping.

Smarts so thoroughly beats out athleticism on the court. Years back, a couple of pudgy, early-30s coworkers and I were shooting around and a trio of fit, early-20s kids laughed and mocked us when we asked if they wanted to play. We skunked them the first game and were on the way to skunking them a second time when I sprained my ankle. Man were they *****ing at each other after every bucket we scored.

Oooh! Another SPC highlight. Every official trash location had cans for 'Trash', 'Recyclables', and 'Compost' and an official trash czar to ensure the proper placement of refuse. I accidentally threw a paper cup into the trash can instead of the compost can and they nearly flogged me.

It survived the ride, but I would assume it would go in the compost bin since it degrades so quickly.

O dear, I do believe the rains have begun in earnest and I don't have the rain bike set up.

Just needs wheels, pedals and bar, I guess...

Can you replace a chainring without removing the crank? I want to swap a 40t in for my 46t on the singlespeed.

Or should I just put a bigger cog in the back and replace the chain?

This would necessitate the purchase of a lockring tool (which I eventually will need to buy anyway). I think I'll swing by Bike King on the way home and see what they have in stock as far as tools and parts go.
