Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Performance Bicycle in Pittsburg Rocks!

My wife and I live in Dayton, Ohio and purchased our first road-bikes from Performance Bicycle in Dayton (2013 Fuji 1.1) about a year and a half ago.

This past weekend we planned two rides, one on Friday and one on Sunday, around a wedding on Saturday over in Pittsburg. Friday we headed east and stopped in eastern Ohio to do a 25 mile route that is on our 'to-do' list. About half way through my crank-set went side-ways:

Four of the five little bolts had somehow backed themselves out and fallen somewhere during our rides! Fortunately our bikes are pretty much the same, so I stole two bolts of my wife's crankset so we could finish the ride - we still had fun, but it was a little more work since I wasn't comfortable using the big wheel anymore (for either of us).

We made it back to the car around 6pm and called a bike shop in Zanesville but they were closed and didn't plan to be open on Saturday. We did an internet search and found the Performance Bicycle in Pittsburg so we planned to get there early and see what they could do.

As soon as we got to service I knew we were in good hands. Josiah was upset that the bolts had backed out and was going to fix them on the spot when I mentioned that I had been eyeing some Ultegra cranksets and that this could be a good time to upgrade. Of course he agreed and gave my wife a 6800 for $219 and me a 6700 for $200 including bottom brackets. He also waived the installation because of the whole bolt problem!
We left the bikes - went to the wedding and picked them up before the reception at 5. He had re-indexed everything and even fixed a problem with my wife's shifter being a little crooked. It was an amazing experience.

We got up the next morning and did our first Metric Century!

Well that is kind of unique-a good report about a big bike store chain. Glad it worked out for you.

There is nothing unique about this report. I have received nothing but stellar service from the 3 Performance bike shops I frequent. I'll post some stories when I have a few free moments.

+1. I live near a Performance store; nothing but good experiences. There are many more interesting shops in the Portland area and better expertise elsewhere. But Performance holds up relatively well for most things.
