Another foolish run done. I am gradually increasing my mileage. Some people made fun of me when I was doing 1 mile a few months ago. Now up to 7.5 miles and it's going ok. Still stupid, of course. But better than nothing. Maybe.

Speaking of running, whither Bah Humbug?

While steel-lovers are often saddled with the unjustified stereotype of inflexibility and rigidity, I like to think of myself as complex, flexible and multi-faceted. In this case, the aesthetics of these Carbon/Ti works of art far outweigh my reticence toward today's typical full carbon cycles. I would even buy one if given the opportunity, although it would have to be brand-spanking new, with a metal stem, steerer tube, handlebar, seat tube, crank and deraillers, and wheels. In other words, the absolute minimum of carbon. :p

But that's just me.

You jerk. Next time be more considerate and ride your bicycle cycle down a MUP.

Yesterday I opted not to ride, but after dinner I was antsy to move. Since my wife has been dragging me out for running (only on Saturdays even though I tell her we need to do it more than once a week if she wants to see gains) I decided to do a quick 2 mile run.

Well, run for me at this point is a mix of fast walking and running. I can't just run for two miles I would be sore for a week.

Still stupid.

Vintage carbon fiber. He's a randonneur and says he has 10s of thousands of miles on it. No asplonsions.

What? Why did she just pull out in front of you and then stop mid-intersection?!

Club member was injured in a crash over the weekend- long training ride, little gap in the pace line at the end. Car whizzed past into the middle of the pace line and then slammed on its brakes (traffic was moving slowly). She rammed into the car, was thrown from her bike and under the back of a pickup truck backing out of a parking lot. Had to bang on the truck to keep it from running over her! Dislocated shoulder and some broken ribs and lots of road rash. Driver stopped though and called 911 and stayed with her throughout, even after the rest of the group got back to her to render assistance.

He apparently had to replace the fork because it was damaged in shipping once.

Mumonkan 10-08-15 11:06 AM

its like a deer in the headlights, i never understand why drivers do that

oh an object traveling towards me! better stop so i make sure it hits me!

dfq??

RPK79 10-08-15 11:20 AM

...and what's with the hand gesture? It's like she's saying, "Why the hell didn't you continue going forward while I was clearly slamming on my brakes to avoid hitting you?"

Mavic cranks act as an amulet of protection against asplosions.

SpeshulEd 10-08-15 11:24 AM

I always like the people coming from the other direction that turn in front of you because they assume you're on a bike and not that fast. Then they realize you're on top of them so they stop right in the way.

My buddies dad would always yell "Turn the *****!" whenever anyone turned slowly in front of him and he had to brake. I always found it amusing, so now I end up yelling that at a lot at people.

Mumonkan 10-08-15 11:25 AM

i usually go with "today would be nice!"

she didnt want to be the one that looked stupid

too late.

my logic is: if i was a loaded semi barreling down the street, you wouldve done the same thing?

no? thats what i thought.

same thing when people fling their doors open after they park. i know you looked, we made eye contact in your mirror.

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense. He was a bit of a redneck, and a lot of things that came out of his mouth didn't make much sense, which is why I think I found it amusing.

That's terrible, Heathpack. I do hope she heals well. I also hope she got the plate number of the car she hit.

I can't answer why the lady in my video was so upset, or why she drives the way she does. I'm pretty numb to most of the crap I deal with every day, to be honest. That's not a good answer, but it's the truth. A few weeks ago, I went down because I avoided a car pulling out in front of me. She actually got out, and was apologetic as can be. I just stated that I'm OK, and not even mad, as I deal with behavior like this daily.

WhyFi 10-08-15 12:16 PM

I am somewhat crushed; my boy and I did our first father/son bike ride (previously, I've walked/trotted along side), but I did not Strava it, so I have no proof that that momentous first actually happened.

It didn't happen if you didn't Strava it. Better go do it again!

Hey. Apparently Lynskey says you should replace a crabon fork every 5 years. Every other is just nonsense.

LAJ 10-08-15 12:41 PM

If you have a Thomson stem, I would replace the fork with the stem every two years, as Thomson suggests.
