the idea of fat tires is flotation, over loose terrain like snow and sand

suspension and getting rowdy with said fatbikes is a new thing

you also generally need much lower gears, cuz thats a lot of rotational mass

Thats the West End of Catalina Island. We are going round the back side this time, to the quietest/calmest anchorage that is still within easy walking distance to the bar. :)

Herbie53, whose bike is that? Yours? It looks good.

Those are my favorite colors- dark blue plus light blue. Second choice black plus light blue. Then light blue plus orange a la Gulf racing colors.

Yeah, it's the crash replacement for the one I cracked when I had my crashy back in May.

Next they will be making tyres so wide that the bike will stand up by itself

FWIW, the cracked one has been repaired by KirkLee and will be my race bike now. Came out quite nicely...

Nice! There's a brewery from San Diego called Ballast Point. I was mightily impressed by their Original Pale Ale. Gonna have to try some of their others.

Looking at the terrain there, I think you need a folding fatbike, Heathpack!

Rest. My coach says rest. I'm supposed to be hitting the hammock this weekend. No bikes!

SpeshulEd 10-23-15 08:48 PM

Beautiful photos!

And Ballast Point beer is tasty too, not a fan of the Habanero Sculpin, everything else I've had was delish!

Brisk fall morning out there. Time to ride!

BillyD 10-24-15 06:00 AM

Brisk indeed.

I can almost hear your teeth chattering from over here!

Speaking of briskly cold, a couple who are friends gave a presentation tonight of their kayaking trip halfway around Iceland earlier this year. Iceland is called that for a reason -- the summer wind from the north-east was always icy cold, so much so that our friends always sought shelter from it whenever they made a landing.

The ended up cutting their planned short, and found out eight weeks later that they still would have been in exactly the same spot had they continued... because of the ice-cold wind straight off the Arctic.
