And while we are on the hot cereal subject, let us not forget our friend @coasting, who loved his gruel. Olav ha shalom.

Ever since Monsanto (the people responsible for Roundup and Agent Orange) got involved with corn products (aka GMO), I'm pretty leery of all things corn. And the related decline of Monarch butterflies and other fauna also points tragically toward this chemicals giant.

I eat as little of corn products as possible.

Speaking of running, whither @Bah Humbug?

What weekly mileage total?

Me, I've had work crushing me for the past couple of months and didn't have time to keep up here, and when I'm not kept up I tend not to bother. Feels strange when I don't know what all is going on.

Turned down a job offer from a local company when, at the 11th hour, I learned the boss (of the very small company) was a jackass and completely unprofessional.

Got deep into the interview process at Atlassian, which has such an awesome downtown office I loved, but then got the rejection email last night. The decision was made in Sydney, so it came in at 8:30, and I wanted to cry. Feel like I'm going to be working at the bank my entire life. Was a rough night, and rough morning, but I had a hell of a run this morning.

On the other hand, I have the last three weeks of December off. That's what's keeping me going.

The running has been awesome in general - doing the Austin Distance Challenge this winter. We've had the first race so far, the Back to the '80s 8k, and set my 1mi, 2mi, and 5k PRs, and would have gotten 5mi if the course had gone that long. Sunday is Run for the Water, 10 miles, but will be raining.

Bah. Humbug.

Bah Humbug 10-27-15 08:32 AM

Oh, and long-term goal is to qualify for Boston, and then run that with my body covered in NYG temporary tattoos.

Mush was fried to perfection - crisp on the outside but just firm on the inside.

...the whole Bt corn thing is really problematic. How do you deal with a wind pollinated crop that contains a pesticidal genetic component ? If butterflies could vote, the guys at Monsanto would be war criminals.

...don't worry. By the time you hit 65, you'll feel stranger if you do know what's going on. :)

So, I thought maybe that will be what the old steel Schwinn becomes next.

It does not have enough rear tire clearance.

Get a Fuji Track.

The crank/bb isn't as high as a dedicated cx nor does it have diskette brakes, but it will run at least 700x30s and likely a bit larger no problem and it's all steel.

Yeah, it's not a light bike. It weighs more than my Fuji Roubaix Pro w/ 5700. That extra weight will help you power through the sand traps. ;)

Could be wrong, but I thought that pesticidal genetic modifications are safer for beneficial insects and other critters than sprayed pesticides.

Doug28450 10-27-15 10:38 AM

I don't want to start into the GMO discussion, so, I will politely decline.

That's not the point. The point is that now that the herbicide won't kill off the genetically modified corn, the farmers can use the glyphosates more indiscriminately, and it's the indiscriminate usage that causes harm to the non-genetically modified plants in the area via wind-drift and runoff. It's a huge problem that Monsanto wants you to ignore.

They also want you to ignore any potential health risks to humans of eating GMO corn.

I'm back on track with scheming winter bike stable shenanigans based on the old steel Schwinn.

Sorry. I thought we were talking about corn that was modified to kill insects. My bad.

On the other hand some folks are afraid of eating GMO crops and some aren't. One thing for sure is it beats starving to death.

that comment was one of the most insane things ive ever heard and i lost all respect for him.

Yeah, I like food and eating quite a bit, but I'm not the biggest fan of cooking. The idea of just drinking something to get all my needed nutrients for the day is intriguing...but pizza.

Waiting for the "My thread got locked where I complained about all my other threads getting locked." thread now.

I'm that way about drinking water. I wish IVing was easier. A little IV while eating breakfast, lunch and dinner would be so much better than having to drink water all the time.
