I like animals, but hate pet hair. That and while I prefer dogs, I would really only like to have on if I had enough land for him to run around on. I had a dog when I lived in the country during high school and it was great. I don't see a dog having fun stuck in my house all day or in a small backyard.

Regarding the fragility of today's youth: We had a recent college grad working here as a bookkeeper/payroll person. It's a fairly low key position, but there are a few tight deadlines. She had several meltdowns where the stress got too much for her, generally shortly after an error would be caught. She made it about 9 months and then left the accounting industry completely.
Although, she was replaced with another younger accountant (23) who doesn't seem to let anything phase her. So, it's not all the youths. Maybe it's just the sub-20 year olds. |
so i broke my glasses coming home from the camping trip last week, the little springy rod from the hinge broke off so theyre taped together with clear medical tape
my insurance covers eye exams by obtaining a voucher, which i got lightning fast. i call the doctors office that others i work with have used at 930 am, the doctor answers after about 10 rings and sounds like he has food in his mouth. "uhh, well its 930, we all just got here, could you call back around 11?" mmkay sure. call back at 1145, a woman answers the phone literally with a "SIGH-doctors office." sounds promising. i ask if i can get an appointment this week since my glasses are broken, she says theyre booked until january. i ask if i can get an emergency appointment and she suggests "SIGH-well you can come in and wait around..." so i just have her make the earliest appointment, which is on Jan 7th, and frustratingly try to spell out my name and give her my phone number for the next 10 mins. next hour i keep thinking about going into the city to the insurances vision center, then i call the place that i got my contact exam from, down the street (the other place was 10 miles away) a young lady answers pleasantly and i tell her that i want to set an appointment for an eye exam asap, and if they take my insurance, they do, and she asks me if i can come in tomorrow. 1145 am tomorrow, no questions asked vs 230 in the afternoon a month from now with some poking and prodding. what a difference. is it so hard to just be a nice person these days? sheesh. |
Speaking of bloody cats. I once got woken up in the middle of the night after one of my cats knocked a plate off the counter and then landed on top of it cutting one of it's paws open. It bled a LOT. I didn't know that much blood was even in a cat. We couldn't get it to stop bleeding and finally my ex used flour to get the cut to clot. I don't know where she learned that trick, but it worked.
Really thought he was going to die that night, but he's still going strong now 7 years later. https://scontent-yyz1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...61&oe=56D64CA0 |

Since the thread has gone to the cats...
Yesterday, we found blood on top of our dining room table and a subsequent set in the middle of the living room floor. Watching three seasons of Dexter do spatter analysis hasn't yet helped me figure out who or what the blood came from, but it looks like something was shaken - I thought that maybe it came from a nicked ear obtained during a cat fight, but all ears check out (and it was an awful lot of blood for that kind of injury). We thought that we were mouse-free, but playing with a kill is my next guess... |

Ramona, I love your writing style and you have the best sense of humor ever. :roflmao2:
The gray and tan striped cat lies under the wooden chair. She’s hoping to grab my father’s chubby toes Should he dare to pass Through the hallway from the bedroom In order to go to the bathroom. Usually she gets distracted By a bit of wax in one ear or By the fur at the end of her tail that’s standing up and needs a lick; Involved in her grooming, her mission forgotten, she allows my father safe passage. But now and again- just often enough to keep it interesting- she remembers her goal. Haunches slightly swaying, Their inner springs coiled and ready, Tail held low and straight for balance, Then she launches herself up and out through the rungs of the chair. Spying her in mid-flight, my father tries to walk faster. “Hi, baby,” he coos but it’s too late. Playfully, the striped cat plunges her claws into his pudgy white foot. She pulls them back quickly for another swipe, Drawing out blood and a satisfying shriek. |

We got a very high energy dog almost 2 years ago and our yard is pretty small but it's motivation to take her out on long walks. If not for her, I'd probably never have discovered half of the trails around this city that I've seen in the last couple years and walking her is something I can do with my wife unlike riding bikes. The dog has been the worst thing to happen to my riding time since grad school, because I have a hard time pedaling out into the cold when she's sitting there begging to play. Wouldn't trade it, though. |
