I will do what's on my schedule, that's what I (pretty much) always do. I'm sure I'm going to be sore the subsequent day. It seems coach is sure too, because the subsequent day is a rest day. ;)

wheres this Nyack rocket ride start from, near you? looks like a rad group/ride

Rolls out @ 9:15AM on Sundays in the winter from the Runcible Spoon in Nyack, it's like a 38-40 mile loop. High speed training ride, pretty much a Cat 3-ish pace,
there are some very strong guys on this ride. In the summer it's even faster, and it's longer (closer to 50 miles). Undisciplined, but I must say, yesterday there was
no red light running, so it has gotten much better. At least in the winter. In the summer when the latin NYC boys are there, forget about it, they don't stop for no stinkin
red lights yo.

You don't hear any chit chat on the video because it's generally not a social ride. It's treated more like a race on public roads. That's how that ride has been for 40 years.

 That's pretty much how I like to ride most of the time, stop for lights or traffic only when absolutely necessary. I may have discouraged RollCNY from ever riding with me again after riding with me this past summer. :(

I can't help it, it's a deeply ingrained habit formed from riding the streets of NYC for so many years where you can't get any kind of decent riding done if you stop every time you encounter a traffic light.

RPK79 12-14-15 12:30 PM

I generally only encounter one or two traffic lights per ride at the beginning and end of the route. Sometimes none. Although on my group rides there are more since they begin in a more dense population area than where I live. Stopping is generally the norm, but we have pushed through some yellows.

Mostly to yourself, but still.

Well...this is funny...
Mumonkan forgot to hit the start button. lmao

Apparently you can load up a course and follow it...all without recording the ride.

It really doesn't matter that much. ;)

Nevertheless, you can't add altitude gain manually...I told my wife I may take a subway downtown and go ride the elevator in the Freedom Tower a few times; in kit, with my Garmin. lmao

Rocket Ride is very cool, no bull**** like the "Gimbel's Ride." I just never get up and on the road early enough to ride from the Bronx up to Nyack for the (Rocket Ride) start... yeah, I could join it on it's way but, I'm a whole package kinda guy.

The Gimbel's Ride is the epitome of wannabee Fred-dom, a bunch of poseurs who think they're fast (2/3rds of the route is downhill), and they're dangerous. Blasting lights, etc..

It's a cool visit to go see Jim at Nyack Bikes...He started the whole thing (Rocket Ride), it's great to sit down with a cup of joe and chew the cud over all things cycling with him.

No thanks.

i was good till we met up with justin at the train station and hit pause, i did this same **** when i did that dirt audax route too and didnt notice till about 20 miles in when "elapsed time" was stuck on stupid

im just never hitting pause on my garmin again

patentcad 12-14-15 01:21 PM

The Nyack Ride has a few freds or washed up former racers like me, but it's 85-90% current active racing dudes, mostly 1-2-3's. So it can get very fast. Hell, once in a blue moon a domestic pro shows up.

No traffic lights on today's 22 mile lunch ride.

Well, technically, there was one. But, it was green and I was turning right anyway.

PhotoJoe posted a link on FB last week to a rendition of Sweet Child of Mine by Lucas Stricagnoli, it was so awesome that I got sucked into the guys YouTube feed.

This is my favorite song of his though, I love the movie (and book) Last of the Mohicans. This is the theme song to that movie. This guy is amazingly talented, check out some of his other stuff too.

Hey Mr. rjones28, I finally ran into my friend Dan yesterday, and that was him in your Cyclocross pic from several moons ago. The Child Abuse Race in Scriba, IIRC. As Steven Wright said, it's a small world, but I'd hate to paint it.

Ha! It's all good. Miraculously I've got my 510 working again.

I'm sorry I missed this, @BillyD! I'm pretty happy with it this year. Had to hold my tongue just right to get the candy canes straight, but pretty close, if I may say so. :)

I believe he was the only finisher behind me at the end of that race. He must have had a mechanical or something.

I don't recall where the pick is, but I think the guy who finished behind you was over your right shoulder in the pick. Over your left shoulder was my friend Dan, but again, going from memory.

That's how weekend rides are supposed to be. We had a similar ride on Sunday, about 55 miles. Once I hit ~ 60 miles I begin to fade.
