Alright, I have an update on this and wanted to pass it along. Those of you who do not remember I was involved in a crash in a pace line a week ago today in which things got nasty, etc. I said that I woulld try and talk to a person at the ride who was posting stuff online about me being a "danger to all cyclist" crap.

Well today I went to go show a few friends my new frame before work and I saw this individual coming back from the ride. I showed a few guys who rode with him the frame, chatted a little and then went in to eat when this individual was at a table. Things did not go very plesent. Lets just say he called me some choice words, said I was an iodit for not owning up and talking full responsibility, blah blah blah. Things ended with I and a few other cyclists never will ride with you again. My response is I would turn around and ride 50 miles the other direction to not ride near you.

This all started with the thread on this forum. All I can say is I will never ride with that group again. It is a shame because about 15 on the riders I am good friends with, but 2 or 3 ruin it. May I remind you that this person was never at the ride in question in the first place. I have no problem with enjoying the company and even riding with the other 13 cyclists, but if this one shows up then it is off on a solo training ride... it is too bad.

Well it is over and I am relieved. I did 3 group rides this weekend with no incidents, even pulling part of the time a 32+ MPH paceline... hmmm!

Just wanted to let everyone know.

It doesn't have to be like that. I read that thread and obviously have no way of knowing who's right or wrong. You probably both are. But whatever. It seems like there's enough people in that group that you can keep your distance from each other. Just take it easy and try to not rock the boat. For better or for worse, you like riding with that group and it might be in your interest to earn his--and anyone else's--trust. And you might learn something along the way.

Bunch of d1ckheads. Crashes happen, that's our sport. One day he might cause one.

Find another group to train with.

eh...crashes happen. yes they suck, but in the end it's really hard to determing if anyone was at fault or who. We will all make a mistake during a ride or race someday...it's life. just be glad that no one got hurt and enjoy the sport. if someone wants to keep making a big deal about it then let them. they will stay stuck in that place while you progress on further.

So this is sort of similer[not exact by any measure], maybe it will spark your brain.
So, some years back I hung with a group of folks and we all got along peachy, then over a fairly short period(about a year) one of them decided, for no good reason(according to people who we both knew), that he hated me. At first he tried running me off from all the old hangouts either by being a dik, or lying about the property owner's wishes, or lying to the property owner. I will name him Dik
Well there were a number of people there I still got along with, so I just started showing up and kind of flaunting the fact that I was there and didn't give rip about Dik's wishes(basicaly just ignored him). I also asked people on occation if they knew what Dik's problem with me was, because the answer would always make Dik look like a dumbass, answers like: "He thinks you did(or do) such and such action." (which they all know isn't my style) or "I don't know.". Eventually my presents annoyed him so much that he moved on, but not before he ran his reputaion into the ground.


Oh and what lameass can't take a little tire rubbin'? As a kid we would play sort of a cops and robbers chase game, during which we would fully grind treaded tires together while pedaling as hard and fast as we could(not quite knobbies). Your tire gets bumped, you may wiggle a bit, and you keep pedaling simple as that.
Of course if there is 6 inches of overlap and the guy in front decides to pull off in that direction then there may be a problem, for the guy in back anyway, but thats a risk the guy in back took, so as they say "reap what you sow".

If he wasn't at the ride then he shouldn't be commenting anyway.. Grow a set and just show up and ride, screw em.. Just make sure to hang with your friends..

If you find yourself off the front and unsure if someone is behind you, flick that right elbow out, so if something goes down, you made them aware you were pulling off..

Yep, Gangrel has it. My reading was my58vw was inexperienced and technically at fault. The other guy is at fault afterwards for attitude, even though I reckon he has reason to be. Let's be sure we know -- my58vw didn't go down. The other guy did, and hurt himself.

It's up to my58vw to decide what to do. And it looks like he has. So be it. If I was the other guy, well... I wouldn't put myself in the position because I hate group riding, or pacelining with people I don't know. But I think I'd be pretty crapped too.

Since this is a public forum and my opinion is the only thing I have to offer - take this for whatever you see fit.

You ruined any chance of making things right with these boys by taking the whole thing public. By bringing it here and spending the effort to prove you were right, it only agravated an already bad situation. This is not black and white. Were you hoping that they'd admit you were 100% right and then want to make up and ride with you? By trying to justify your position, you hardly allowed this guy (and the ohers) the room to accept their role and meet you halfway.

You'll understand this better after you've been married a few years.

Like I said in the original thread I had part of the fault in the original accident. I was just going back to try and cool things off. I do not think this thing could have ever been resolved in the group specifically, when I tried to talk I would just get yelled at. That is the reason that it was brought here.

Is their any way to make this right with a few certain individuals... right now no.

I replyed in defense of the experienced riders you were blaming and gave a little background about the accuser.

First of all any choice words used, were about your actions. Get your facts straight.
On behalf of most of the riders that have ridden with you...Thank you, we will apreciate you not there.
It takes a huge ordeal and mess to get you to even admit partial responsibility. The fact is, you are dangerous to yourself most of all and to others as well. Its a pitty that you cannot see that. It will most likely lead to your demise in an act of pure ignorance.

Thats is where you are wrong once again. Only 2 or 3 will say anything to you. The rest just talk behind your back. I didnt need to be on the ride with you. I have spoken to everyone that was there and they all had the same explanation of what happened. I think that outweighs your single skewed idea of what happened. Fortunately for you, they have not seen your posts about what happened.
Every single ride we have done together, you have done something dangerous, whether it be passing cars on the right with thier turn signals flashing, cutting in front of vehicles going twice your speed, or just not holding your line and interfering with traffic. (I could go on and on. These are not isolated incidents)

No incidents according to who? You? You have already proven that you can not be trusted with the facts. Your stories about your speeds and performance have never matched your actual speeds and performance. It was always entertaining to hear about how fast we went on the rides when our computers told a different story.

Hmmm interesting you said that, I would like to know how you equate those values... hmmm.

We will not start disecting your post but about half the incidents you said are in your opinion, but that is fine, there are multiple kinds of cyclists. It is not true that everytime I ride something happens. I have made a few mistakes, learned from them. We all make mistakes when learning to deal with traffic. I ride 5 days a week in situations much more dangerous than any we have ever encountered on any of our rides. Sometimes you have to assert your right to ride on the road. There are many times where the situation could have been much dangerous if I would have stayed in my little corner, squezed into the bike lane than taking the lane and making cars wait.

Have you ever tried riding on Van Buren during rush hour? There are places that you will get squzed off the road if you are not assertive. Sure I cut a car off ONCE, sure I moved to the right when a car was trying to go that way ONCE, sure I have done a few things but I have never done them again. If you think I ride dangerously I would like you to see maybe say the "Raincross" training ride, or simular rides, now they assert their presence on the road. We can not live in the little sheltered world of RBC group rides where nothing happens. Reality of training and riding is that you sometimes hae to deal with situations that are not plesent or "safe".

If you do not agree with my riding style then you do not have to ride the way I do. Just read the safety and advacosy forum about bike lanes, cars, bike crashes, etc.
