Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Its a big deal to the breeder, she'd be only the 14th female dachshund ever to get this accolade. So the rest of his litter are for sure going to be show dogs, he is the ugly duckling who looks right now like he won't go down that path. But she says you never know, sometimes they turn out way better than expected. I don't really care one way or the other. And I don't mind her taking him to dog shows if she wants, I just don't want to drive him all over SoCal.

Mr. H's take is why don't we just get a dog from the shelter?

That complete bike, after the 25%, will cost less than the wheelset that's on it.

The Doglet. She has everyone wrapped around her finger and always expects to be indulged. If you ever say "no" to something she thinks she deserves, she just stares at you incredulously. I have to say that I admire her confidence.

If anyone questions whether dogs smile or not just show them that photo! Adorable.

Jeez, no one told me we were sharing dog photos.

That's my high-energy lady. She loved the snow a couple weeks ago, not so much the icy crust that came the next day when it cut up her paws while playing

Biggest single impediment to riding is having a cute dog that gives you heartbreaking faces when you leave the house.

Smiles? Yea, she does that too.

I dropped like 4.5 pounds almost instantly, but the dial hasn't budged since, even though I've been meticulously logging foods and usually don't use a big ride as an excuse to pig out. Meaning if I burn 1,500 calories on a weekend ride, I might only eat another 3-500 calories max. I did have a bad week last week where I didn't go over on my count, but I did eat crap. I've started this week trying to shoot for more lean protein. I'm just going to keep at it and see what happens. I'm only 3 weeks into it.
Getting the total calories burned per week in by counting on weekend efforts has never worked out well with me. I'm in the "hour a day" week at this point. A quick 15 miles around the house, or an hour on the trainer. I actually do more like 70 minutes on 5 days, on average, leaving me right at about 6 hours per week.

With 2 little kids, it's so hard to free up much time on the weekend for 6 hours on the bike. The weekends are my time with the kids, so I don't won't to spend those hours in the saddle.

That being said, I'm still stalled, even now that I'm eating 1600 calories net, and have adjusted the calorie burn accounting in half (garmin overestimates by a 2x factor, and now I'm using the lower estimates). You'd think cutting another 400 cal/day out would do something, given that I'm already not eating a whole lot of calories.

Everybody's body is different. My sister, and one of my daughters have that lucky situation where they can eat a million calories and not gain an ounce. Not me. Every damn calorie hits me hard.

Maybe I need some of those poop pills.

It's all about build. When I started college I was skinny as a rail at 6' and 180#. I'm all torso, though. I'll be thrilled when I get to under 200, but right now I'd settle for getting back down to the 215 I was a few weeks ago.

Enjoy the cat and dog pics. We can't have either one anymore due to a severely allergic grandson.

Need one of those spooky hairless cats.
