Bibs suitable for long distance?

I think you'll have better results if you only wear one pair of bibs at a time. Castellis over PI over Performance... that's a lot of bib under your butt.

Rapha just released their "Core" collection, which is lower priced than previous offerings. I'd still wait for their summer sale however. I personally have no expedience with their bibs, but I do like the two jerseys and jacket I have from them.

I agree with three people that say sit bone pain could be an issue of just getting the miles in. Many people take a break from riding in the winter and when they get back on the bike may have some discomfort until they "toughen up" again.
Saddle and shorts preferences are very individual. I ride two very different saddles on my road bikes and use bibs that range from thin to thick chamois pads. While I can pretty much ride any combination of saddle and shorts for 100+ miles, there are some I prefer a little more than others, one of which is a short that happens to have a fairly thick chamois pad unlike a minimal thin pad many others here prefer.

Yep. Whenever I take extended periods off the bike (over six months), it usually takes me at least 800 miles to rebuild the 'ol callouses around the sitbones to where I can ride hours upon hours without issue.
