Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

....and there goes the neighborhood. Big stuff is afoot in the industry BTW. I know I have come out here and pontificated about it before but a lot of it is actually coming to pass and it's not really all that good in general. Keep your eyes on stuff like this - guys.

The Ultegra freehub on my newer cheap wheelset is silent. That's the second best thing about them. First is that they roll reeealy smoooth. From what I've read, the newer Ultegra hubs have the same bearings as the Dura-Ace, correct?

It's just not their market. They, along with most component manufacturers, would rather just well the whole wheel system to you than a hub. Aftermarket hub sales have been miniscule compared to wheel sales since the prebuilt revolution.

No I get that completely. Still doesn't keep me from wishing they'd do a 24 or 28.

Yes, they have same bearings but different cups.
