Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Handlebar Question

Not really in the market for new handlebars, but i tend to look through my local craigslist from time to time and came across these:

Easton EC90 Carbon Bars 42 cm 26.0 mm

From researching they seem to be the EC90 SLX3? But appear to be an older model.

My questions are:

Anybody have any experience with these? Likes/dislikes? I noticed the "transition" from the tops the the drops it a bit more angular than most drop bars (that seem to make a smooth transition from the tops of the bars to the drops)

And does the price seem ok? I know the prices of the newer bars, but cant seem to find what a price would be for these.

Thanks!

I have the EC90 SL bars on one of my bikes and they are durable and light. They are a newer model than the one in the link though. If the Easton quality is consistent with that model, then you're fine.

I swear i tried hunting for them... and now that i look again i see i scrolled right past them. I am not a smart man lol

Thanks!

Now is it just that the angle appears a bit "harsh" on the transition from the top of the bars to the drops or are they actually a bit different design?

are you talking about the bizarre tubing between the "flats" and the "hoods" or are you talking about where your hands would be if you were IN the drops?

The flat ->hood transition looks decidedly odd, or at least I've had no experience. usually it's a curve. Better? Worse? I have no idea.

The drops look like so-called ergo bars, which is an acquired taste I guess. Some people prefer that style, some people do not. Whatever floats your boat. For $30 you can certainly afford to try them out.

Those are for 26mm stems, you will need a new stem or use an ungainly adapter

Considering what the other are going for on eBay you might even make a little profit...
