Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Most of my experience is with SRAM Rival. Mechanically they've been fine, but I'm one of those people who find that the SRAM hood has a substantial bump at the transition from the bar to the hood, and it's very uncomfortable. I find the Shimano hoods more comfortable, and I'm curious about trying Campy. I'm not hard-core enough to appreciate the subtle performance and weight differences - I want reliability and comfort. For now I'm just going with taping some extra scraps of bar tape into that gap. When I tape my new bars I'll try to completely eliminate the problem more artfully, and then I might love the SRAMs. Just be aware that while most people seem to find SRAMs the most comfortable hoods, some of us find them very uncomfortable without playing around with a bunch of foam.

yup I kinda have this same issue when I'm on my 10sp Force & Rival hood (prior 2012 series), that little bump is particularly annoying when I'm off the saddle and rocking the bar left & right, though it doesn't seem to bother me when I'm on my normal riding position.
I should add that on my other bike, a Sram Red 10 sp shifter (2012 series) has a different hood. The upper side is flat, really flat. I love that I'm able to "dance" off the saddle with no pain in my lower palm area. And the front side of the hood is higher than the old version, makes it more secure on sudden braking.
This new version of flat hood is already on all of the 11 speed groupset, but for a 10 speed version I'm guessing it's only on a Sram Red
