Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know why, but it speaks to me. Maybe a rigid fork down the line. Components are base entry level for 1x11, but they are good enough to wear out and replace later.
Going for the ugly one, eh?

On last night's ride I "got" that goofy chainstay. Totally keeps your heel from knocking being up there.

But no drop bars?

thanks all!

Riley is a hoot. Wasn't so sure about how I would feel about getting a pup so soon after Jake, but it was the right thing.

I think puppies use cute as a weapon... extra cute allows for more destruction with little consequence

I had a Cannondale hardtail for a short while with Ergon grips with integrated bar ends (Still have those in a box). I did probably 50/50 trail/pavement with it and it was fine. I could convert it to drop bar in the future. There are a couple of companies developing weird stems to fix the long reach/low stack issue. But really, don't I need a proper mountain bike anyway?

Sure you do, but being that upright is not going to be ideal for your long gravel rides, which is what I thought you were trying to optimize for.

What do they want for those 2017 Propels? What is in the $2k range? 105 on aluminum frame?

Oh and it's 4 o' clock and I'm starving. Food talk?

It's really a preference thing. Half of the people on the rides I've done are on MTB's. Most of the fast guys on the Tour Divide are all on flat bars. You generally see more drop bars for the "touring" segment of bikepacking and gravel riding, but you can really use either/or.

I kind of prefer drop bars, but am not opposed to flat bars. If I ride it for a few months, it would be easy enough to swap out the flat bar controls for some rival 1 controls. That plus a high rise/short reach stem would put me in the "right" position for dirt drops.

That and I'm not sold on 27.5+ for long gravel rides. They sound great for blasting around trails, but 29x2.2 to 2.4 sounds more ideal and seems to be the "faster" option for most people doing ultra endurance events.

I could've sworn I saw a 2016 or 2015 for $2100, maybe I was looking at the Defys though.

I had a blackened chicken sammich with pepper jack, jalapeños, honey mustard, and L/T/O the other day that I'm still thinking about.

Nor do they come in aluminum.

Nor do they come with 105

Ultegra is the minimum.

There are still some 2016 in the warehouse. Have your Giant dealer take a look. Mine is a 2016 that was in the warehouse and Giant wanted to move.

I walked around for like maybe 2 miles during my lunch playing god damn pokemon go with a co-worker and it pushed my hunger over the edge.

Who knew just an egg and veggie wrap for lunch would leave me lurched the rest of the day. Never trust a lo-cal lunch.

So the work laptop is getting Office 2013 pushed to it. Slowly. In the meantime, of course, Office is unusable, which means no work can occur. Which would be great, except for whatever reason the XB1 is misbehaving. So, good times.

Week 3, I'm finally getting a cell phone and getting my land line setup. Been chaotic around here - not necessarily a bad thing though.. company looks healthy.

You must like the new job if you're willing to play Pokemon to ingratiate yourself to your co workers.

This.

Pretty cool you would risk piling into a police cruiser just to make pals.
