Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cannondale r3000

Hello guys, have the opportunity to get a cannondale r3000 from 2004. Does any one know the tire clearance? I think the model is r3000 optima.

I had an R2000 w/ CAAD7 frame, probably same era. At the time the R2000 was Ultegra (9 speed 6500) and the R3000 was Dura Ace. If yours is CAAD7, what I'm writing will probably help. Also, I believe the CAAD8 had exactly the same dimensions, but I could be wrong on that.

The CAAD7 frame would take 25mm tires, but 28s were iffy. "Small" ones would fit. The critical area was in front of the rear tire, it didn't have enough clearance with the seat tube, especially if you got even a tiny amount of mud or grit clinging to the tire. The clearance at the stays was OK (just) as I remember it.

If you have a 28, give it a try, but if purchasing, probably stick with 25.

Keep in mind that your wheels can affect this too. 25s may sit more like 28s if you've got particularly wide rims.

I have a 2004 6/13 with Ksyrium SSCs and Bontrager R3 25mms on it. There is only 2-2.5mm of clearance between the fron der. clamp and the tire. Doubt if 28s would fit without rubbing.

Dura ace 10 speed looks nice on that frame! Is there a dent in the top tube?

Nice bike. I had a similar dent on a '99 Trek 2500 I used to ride after dropping a wrench on it, never caused any problems but you may want to get a shop to look at it to be sure.

That bar tape and those bars, though... Ugh. It'd look nice with some glossy black tape and modern compact drops rather than the ergo bendy stuff that puts the levers lower than the tops.

I had it checked and everything is good. I was thinking of the same but in the near future. Im just going to ride it for a while and then switch.

Nice bike.
Most Cdales have the top tube dimple on at least one side. You will find it lines up nicely with the handle bars, where they have hit after the bike fell over. Shortening the front and rear der. cables enough so the bars don't hit, but not so short you can't turn them, help prevent it.

Hello Bike Forum members.

I am new here 37 years old and from NL Europe. I came out on this forum because I searched on the internet for this Cannondale. Below is mine. Its been out since 2004 and I received in via my family. I made it a mission to take care of this bike for the rest of its life.

Currently, it has the following setup

Ultegra 6500 2x 9-speed groupset 53/39
Ultegra Wh6800 wheelset

The bottom bracket is Shimano Octalink.

Lately I have 2 issues with the bike. The crank starts to get worn and the right shifter is shifting very difficult. I guess its the end of this groupset. My question is about this.
what do I need to change this bottom bracket? I think its BSA English thread. I am planning on installing a Shimano 67/6800 or Sram force/ red groupset of 10 speed. Can you give me an advice on what I need to switch this crank I am quite handy its just a lot of different sorts out there? what type should be the best option for me?

Thank you so much I am not allowed to post pics will update when I am
