Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What are tube valves made of? Should I be worried about cross threading damage pump

I am wondering what does threaded tube valve usually made of? I am wondering if I need to worry about cross threading the pump head (screw down)?

Cross threading damages things.

Don't damage things.

Then you don't have to worry about it.

Brass or brass plated steel. I don't know for sure. This is cheap stuff. What is there to worry about? It isn't a kidney.

Valves are generally made of brass because of it's excellent machining properties. The higher cost of brass vs. other materials is more than made up is faster machining cycles, better finish and longer (near infinite) tool life.

There's also the added benefits of better corrosion resistance with lower plating cost.

Of course, in places like China, lower labor costs make change the balance of material vs labor cost, so I wouldn't be shocked by a steel valve.
