October was an incredibly busy month ... travelling 4 weekends out of the 5, attempting a 600K randonnee (completed 390 km of it), finishing my course, and writing my final exam on Nov 3. Unless something very strange happens, I will graduate with a Graduate Certificate in IT in December.
Hoping for a bit more sleep in the next week or two. There hasn't been much sleep lately.
Meanwhile ...
Saturday - Rowan and I decided to check out some of the buildings on offer in the Open House Hobart event:
Open House Hobart About Open House Hobart | Open House Hobart
We were thinking of cycling between buildings as we did a couple years ago, but the weather is so bad this year, that we opted to walk instead. It was chilly and very windy with numerous rain squalls. But we did get to see several places.
And I ended up with 13,000 steps on our little adventure.

Did almost 20 miles (19.4 to be exact). I missed riding bike since I skipped last weekend due to pain in my jaw/ear area and it has been agonized two weeks with pain. I went easy routine to get used to it again.
I'm working on getting Zwift up and running starting today - once I get the ANT+ USB (that will arrive today) and it should give me a chance to keep me pedaling everyday after work.

Sat. Chilly 43mi with 3k climbing. went with a few friends who bundled up for the high 30's start. At least it warmed up with the effort and the sun. always good to get the first cold ride out of the way... in a few weeks this one will feel balmy.

Sunday -- We cycled the Ranelagh Ramble Randonnee today. It is the first ride of the season and described as, "A lovely amble around some of the more delightful roads that the Huon Valley has to offer. Some gravel, a few hills and a bakery to begin and end the ride."
"They" also threw wind, rain, and a range of temperatures into the mix.
Distance: 98.4 km
Elevation: 1080 metres
Moving time: 5 hours 26 minutes 47 seconds ... 18.1 km/h average speed.

Well, my weekend started Friday so I'll start there I guess...
Friday - This was my "80s" day! I did 3 laps of a 25 mile route on 3 of my 80s bikes while jamming to 80s rock. Bikes ridden were the 1987 built Schwinn Prologue, mid 80s (can't pin this one down yet) Orbea Cabestany, and then finally the 1987 Trek 560 Pro Series ride.
Fast and comfortable!
A mismatch of parts with soft comfy 700 x 30c tires that rolled the route faster than the full on race Prologue above
This was just ok, I still need to fit it with a butt friendly saddle and wider handlebars
Saturday - Staying with my idea of themes I did a "Billato Brothers" century. This means riding my 3 bikes with frames built by Billato of Italy. First was 31 miles on the Giordana XL Super, then another 31 miles on the Giordana Antares and then finally 41 miles on the Greg LeMond Ventoux.
The Giordana's put away after the ride.
Brooks saddle, cushy bar tape, a fast "all day long Italian geometry" and soft, large tires make this my favorite long distance rider.
Sunday: Took out the Bianchi for 25 miles to put me at 7000 miles for the year.
The Campione seemed to roll better now that I've got some GP 4000s II tires on it. The heavy wheels can still be felt thought...

I am sitting here pondering where to ride today. They tore out the back entrance to our neighborhood for road widening, and the other way is the same loop I have done repeatedly all week(15-20 miles depending on side trips). Maybe I will just go for a walk and start putting my Bottecchia back together.
Update: It started raining; so rode for an hour in a light mist with a bit of sun in the middle. Only 80 miles for the week with 5 1 hour rides, but it was a recovery week anyway. I hope they pave that road soon, or I am going to have to drive somewhere to get a decent ride.

Last weekend was rained out, but pretty nice yesterday.
102 miles to a further bakery (double chocolate scone).
Got on the wheel of some friends for the last 20 & barely hung on at a painful pace.
It's getting green & pretty out there!

Despite return to standard time, lingering cold and need for rest kept me from leaving home early enough to make it to the shop for the start of today's group ride, but I managed to intercept them and ride the better part of the route with them. Not as long or high as originally planned, but, including the ride home from the shop, 48 miles and 3150', so not bad. Kind of a mixed group - the fastest guy practically lapped the group on one climb. Unfortunately, while many of the would-be C-riders among us were ready to graduate to B, in terms of speed, endurance, etc., they hadn't learned much about discipline. The leader was constantly having to remind people to single up, and when we got to a stretch with a super wide shoulder, tried to get us to do a double paceline, making a point to demonstrate what that meant before we got rolling. Well, I've seen sprint finishes that were more orderly. I guess everyone was eager to get home - and to take advantage of the little tailwind we had.
Earlier on the return, the leader told everyone we would be taking Oak Tree back to 9W, which involves a short segment with double-digit grades right after a stop light, and that they should thank me for including it on the ride. Well, I had to step up. Fortunately, I'd had a good breakfast and a nice snack at the turn around point, and we'd been taking it fairly easy up to that point. Also, I watched the light from the back of the group as we approached, and managed to stay back while it was red, to build up some momentum going through it after it turned green. Several from the gang yelled at me as I went past - pretty much an even mix of curses and encouragements. Racer boy was in front, and I chased him down on the flat that followed - passed him, he passed me back, and I passed him again before the end - and what do you know; I managed to capture a little Strava crown for the best time this year!
It was a gorgeous autumn day - cool and crisp, with just a few clouds in a brilliant blue sky, and just enough breeze to get the leaves swirling now and then. Come to think of it, the group was kind of like the leaves, a colorful bunch, scrambling about in the sunshine and breeze, because that's what we do.

Saturday had to go to work so no riding. Sunday was a grey morning, but nice temps. Looks like it rained a little in spots, but I missed it. Wind still blowing out of the NE so I rode out to Flat Woods. This was my best ride in a long time. Strong and steady until the end. 42 miles total.

26 miles in a blistering fast 6 hours and 40 minutes on Saturday, LOL. Buddy took us on a sight seeing tour of Pittsburgh.
I've never been on Mount Washington with the camera. Stunning vista of the city. We were going to ride up the incline but it was too difficult to wiggle in the crowd with the bikes. We climbed instead.
It's a great city to try to navigate by car if you don't know where you're going..... not.
Climbed Rialto Street which is the 3rd steepest of the Pittsburgh's Dirty Dozen. 13-28% average 18.5% according to the list I have. I should have taken a photo, but this is from the web.
Couple other shots from around.
