Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Broken spoke from rim

Hey gang,

Ive got a 1988 panasonic and recently a spoke came off the rim. I'm assuming because it's 28 years old and i ride it in hard conditions.

They are sakae rims with 105 hubs. Can anybody recommend someone in the north altanta area that can perform a rim job that may not be too expensive?

Not aware of many shops who may work with older rim / spokes / hubs

North Atlanta is a hot bed for rim jobs.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

best be is a bike co-op and you're in luck because Atlanta has one. Drop in on Sopo Bikes.

If you want to pay it forward, maybe you can volunteer some time there.

Where exactly? I've heard some people recommend going closer to the inner city.

Hi Isberrios1

I'm in Cobb County, Kennesaw area and bring my wheels to Scott at Pro Wheel Builder in Cumming.
ProWheelBuilder.com
(470) 253-0929
105 enterprise Dr B, Cumming, GA 30040
Bike wheels are all he does. He and his partner build 4000 pairs per year. They are the only place I'll bring my wheels. I can't promise that he will work on wheels that old but it is worth a phone call. If he can't/won't then he should be able to point you in the right direction.

SOPO might be worth going to but expect them to either hand you a new wheel or even a new bike or to tell you to take a hike, depending on how you are dressed and what kind of car you pull up in. I think there is a MARTA stop nearby. Check the website for the location because they moved. They are in Reynoldstown now.

It isn't a hard job. Any wheel competent person can do it.

Normally I recommend doing this stuff on your own, unfortunately a rim job just isn't something you can do on your own unless you are particularly gifted.
