Tail bone pain, saddle, shorts, etc
I went on a long road trip for work about 2 yrs ago, was gone for about a month, the plane rides killed me, when I returned my tail bone was VERY sore, to the point where I was using a standing desk for about 3-4 months because my desk chair hurt. well, during this time I wasn't riding at all, took about a year and change off because of residual pain. at any rate, back on the trainer these days and after I'm on for about half and hour I'm getting a little discomfort on the tailbone. I know part of this is because I haven't been on the bike much so the sit bones are getting acclimated again, I've put on more weight during the down time than I care to admit, and of course had two birthdays since.
as I'm easing back into this are their any things I should look for to help minimize that pain?? are there different saddles that might be more forgiving to the tailbone? currently using a Spec Romin Evo.
maybe there are some shorts that have a touch more padding in that area that might help??
prior to the initial tailbone "injury" I never had saddle pain that was of any concern and haven't adjust my fit since. is there a saddle adjustment I should make to possibly help with this?? I'd assume that raising the nose might have a touch of an effect but I end up with numb nuts if my saddle is perfectly level so I have mine adjusted with about a 1mm nose down tilt (difference between level and new position measured at the nose to the top tube) and that took care of the tingly junk. any thoughts??
Thanks!!!

I broke my coccyx in a rock climbing fall about 50 years ago. It healed fine, but I had to walk backwards uphill and up stairs for 2 months. Everything in your body seem connected to your coccyx in these cases. So that's what's going on: a lot of your back and butt is pulling on it, so yeah it hurts.
What that means is that you've injured it somehow and it has never healed properly. I believe this is called coccydynia. It sounds like you never went to a doctor. Time to go find a specialist in this kind of thing.
So no, not normal.

dude, injured it? I sat on a plane, it NEVER hurt prior to that, I didn't fall, I didn't get hit or anything that would have caused injury. it didn't require a doctor visit, just some recoup time for it...

It didn't require a doctor visit, but 2 years later you are still dealing with symptoms? GO TO A DOCTOR!

It doesn't take a fall or being hit to cause an injury. Pain means something is wrong.

I cracked my tailbone a number of years ago ... but cycling was OK because I rode with my handlebars relatively low in those days.
Oh and ... yes, I saw a Dr ... and the pain was gone in about 8 weeks. It has never been back.
If you're still in pain 2 years later ... see a Dr already. That's not normal.
