What would be a good carbon bike to try for someone who rides steel?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

+1

Reminds me of some bad code I've worked on.

I've been curious about this bike since it's so well regarded in reviews. What does 'uniquely glassy' mean?

Why go all in? Buy some carbon forks for the existing bike or even carbon handlebars or seatpost and experiment.

Can you recommend what I should replace the existing carbon handlebars, fork, seat-post and stem with?

After this thread, I kind of lost interest, but for some reason last night I was comparing the Domane frame geometry to that of my custom steel frame.

Pretty much every relevant measurement is the same (for the 54) within a few millimeters.

I think I will try to rent one with a similar component group and do a comparison. This should be as close to a controlled experiment as any. (Unfortunately it could cost me $6K if it goes well.)

If you do an extensive test ride on a Domane, I will be very interested to hear your thoughts.
