Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just got back from an "interview" at a life insurance / pyramid scheme. It was 30 seconds one on one followed by a questionnaire and a 45 minute presentation. I was told to expect a call later this evening, but I'm thinking of just letting it go to voicemail...

Speaking of logic and buying bikes, I just brokered a deal with my crackbike dealer and @topslop1 for a much badder ass bike at only a little more moolah. They're taking $1500 off the price ().

I love bikes plus. Half the time you leave that place you feel like you just stole the cash register.

On a related note I saw said bike at the other location over lunch today while they were getting ready to transfer it over to the other shop. It's purdy.

@topslop1 gets an MTB and a boozy girlfriend in the same week. Win/win.

I understand completely. I wouldn't be able to justify it either, even new and $700.

If you clicked on that article link of the cyclist in Sunshine Canyon yesterday, it's frightening to see his bike is in such good shape.

Some may find this helpful: When I have any kind of distance drive ahead of me, even if it's only 30 miles, I always bring along some munchies, as in nuts, or raisins, or a nut/berry combination. Munching keeps me awake. For truly long drives I also bring along some M&M Peanuts . . . they affect me like, I'm guessing, crack. I'm guessing.

If that doesn't keep me awake it's time to pull over into a rest stop.

When I drove back and forth from college to home for holidays, it was about 14 hours nonstop. I'd leave at about midnight since I like driving on empty highways and that timed things to avoid rush hour for any major cities.

Still, it was hard to stay awake sometimes.

The car I bought at the beginning of July still has fewer than 2,400 miles on it. I don't like to drive long distances.

Good plan. My wife isn't allowed to sleep anymore. Only the kid and dog.

"I like my bike. I like the way it feels. I like the way it looks. I like the sound my hubs make when I coast. I like the color. I like my brand new bottom bracket, boy the pedaling feels smooth now. This is a really nice bike path. Oh look at that, old guy on a bike, he looks really fit, that's great. Its a really nice day. Boy that coffee tasted good. It was nice to see everybody at coffee..."

Maybe it's the vet brain, but I feel like this is an accurate imitation of how a dog would view bikes if they were capable of riding.

40K TT tomorrow.

Probably. It might rain.

Coach suggests racing without data tomorrow. I understand what he is saying.

I am trying to decide how literally to take that recommendation...

How do you normally pace a TT, power? Have you ever attempted a TT effort without a PM or HR? I feel like you've done enough of them that you'd probably surprise yourself with how well you can pace on feel alone. Maybe not, I've done exactly 2 TTs so I have no idea what I'm saying.

I have set up two minimal-data Race screens in my Garmin:

1. Distance, heart rate, cadence and time
2. Distance, time

My normal race screen is: Distance, heart rate, power, lap power, cadence and time

We'll see what I decide tomorrow.
