You definitely want to use grease, unless you want a stick seatpost.
If you change to a CF seatpost wipe out the grease and put in CF assembly paste

Go ahead and grease with the understanding that the seat post may want to slip. If that happens then add some carbon paste. You can always swab the goop out if you switch to carbon with a paper towel wet with household cleaner or Windex. So nothing is irreversible.

I used assembly paste back when I had an alloy post, and use the same with current CF post (Park SAC-2). Isn't this stuff basically a grease-type base with tiny bits added for gription?

I am pretty sure it is not a grease as that is sometimes harmful to carbon. I appears to me to be a aqueous gel.
