Fitbit said 3500 calories over 45 miles. Interested in seeing what 65 miles looks like on the fitbit.

Ate ice cream yesterday, this morning, and this evening. Gonna run out and grab a beer at a brewery soon.

Downgrade their estimate by 20% to be on safe side?

I want a 4x4 one. I want to retire and drive around the country and ride bikes. The Airstream Interstate tows 5k. I don't think we would use it, other than to use the hitch for a bike rack. As is usually how this works, the other half has to be sold. I sold her this morning.

I like the plan. I asked simply because once completely moored, going somewhere is a pain. That's the upside of the trailer. Of course, if you do it right, supplies can certainly be procured by bike.

I see how this works. If you get the right app, ice cream by the buckets for all!

I'm with you, though my readings may be a tad more accurate. I say that because I rode the heck out of my bike yesterday, and it says I burned 4800. I can buy that.

It seems like the Sprinter would be manageable? Do you think it would be much different than driving a full size truck? Being a self contained 24ft unit seems awesome and we could easily fit in a lot of tight camping spots. 4x4 opens up the year. I get nervous in October towing the trailer.

No there's all kind of trails: nice loamy dirt, decomposed granite, clay silt, sand. We have smooth trails, trails with embedded rocks, trails with loose rock, rock gardens, ledges etc. We have steep trails and gentle trails.

I'm not riding the most difficult stuff, though- mostly beginner to intermediate with some harder elements. The friends who I ride with in Big Bear are a couple & the wife doesn't like trails that are too hard. Often there's a fire road alternative, so sometimes she rides that and her husband & I will do a harder trail. Sometimes we just stick to easy.

Looked like you rode in Lord of the Rings land.

I had no idea Big Bear was so beautiful. Thought it was all fudge, T shirt shops and pontoon boats.

I may have earned a small snack. Like a small bisquit or two. Since it was wet I took my wet weather human powered device across town. It's amazing how much of a sweat you get up constantly accelerating a 38kg fibreglass velomobile (trike) from standstill to cruizing speed. Once up to speed it is fine, but traffic lights are the devil.

Just moderate rains here. All day. More rain than we got in the last month. The grass is already green again.

US441 is closed over the mountains due to "fallen trees."

Absolutely manageable. In actuality, that's why John bought a Sprinter. He looked at the size of an extended cab truck, and figured a Sprinter was the same size, and had more to offer. I only say the moored part because unhooking, running an errand, and settling back in may be a pain. Also, I likely wasn't clear. By tow behind, I meant a vehicle to drive while the motorhome stays at camp. I'm sure there's slang for that.

Haha I attempted to ride with a new-to-me MTB group today at a new bike park in Lake Arrowhead, about 45 min from Big Bear. This group is a shop group from the next valley over from mine and they ride in our town sometimes, so I figured I should check them out and the new park to boot.

I responded to the FB event that I'd be there and was new to the group. They told me how to find them in the parking lot for the meet up.

Found them, introduced myself and got a shrug as if it were weird that I was saying hello.

Ok, whatever. I went and got my ticket and swung by the group again. This time, based on spying a name on a jersey, I figured out who the ride leader was. It's the guy who owns the shop and the one who responded to my FB post.

So I say hi to him and ask what the scoop is, is there a general game plan.

He looks at me and then my bike and tells me I don't have the right kind of bike to ride the park, I have a trail bike and this is a downhill park.

Ok, then. I think I'll just get a trail map and start noodling around. See y'all out there.

Weirdos.

I understood. What we've found with the trailer is we rarely have hook ups. The most fun we've had camping as a family has been off the grid with the solar panels. We would keep our current trailer to have the flexibility for those trips where we need to drop the trailer and have the truck.

While you're in there, may as well clean the lint from the motor impeller blades. It's uniquely satisfying to make an old machine work like new again.

...I had the insides vacuumed out pretty well, could not find a working can of compressed air in the computer room and the compressor is stuck behind some stuff right now. For those of you contemplating such an operation, it turns out that the leaf blower works pretty well. :) But you want to close the door into the house first.:o

Best of both worlds. Perfect.

After my ride was done yesterday at about 10 AM, I did less than Velo Vol I did take a shower today and went outside but that was to walk my dog between the rain. Then the ultimate laziness was when I made microwave oatmeal for dinner today. The wife is in Chicago so it was me and the dog. He ate better than me this weekend. Tuna in water with only 5% calories from fat.

I did get some tips on wine deals which is nice.

I know Billy doesn't like for me to post here; but there was talk of wine, earlier, and so I hope he will find it in his heart to indulge me.

I merely offer some suggestions. The first is a very nicely priced Côtes du Rhône, which is easily worth 3 times the price (2015 blend: 62% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 5% Carignane, 4% Cinsault, 3% Mouvèdre; I think that all adds up). The second is a French Syrah. I love California, but I have yet to drink an California Syrah that does not disgust me (the Australian Syrahs are even worse!); they are all too sweet, lack subtlety, and taste like cough syrup (there is such a thing as terroir, you know?). Fortunatley, the French still know how to make a good Syrah. Of course, y'all may hate these because the American palate is historically tuned towards the saccharine. My dad always forbade us kids to drink soft drinks, so I blame him for my discriminating palate.

Enjoy!
