BDop's 10K-1 thread fell off page 1 without ever making the full 10K. Sad!

Haha I attempted to ride with a new-to-me MTB group today at a new bike park in Lake Arrowhead, about 45 min from Big Bear. This group is a shop group from the next valley over from mine and they ride in our town sometimes, so I figured I should check them out and the new park to boot.
I responded to the FB event that I'd be there and was new to the group. They told me how to find them in the parking lot for the meet up. Found them, introduced myself and got a shrug as if it were weird that I was saying hello. Ok, whatever. I went and got my ticket and swung by the group again. This time, based on spying a name on a jersey, I figured out who the ride leader was. It's the guy who owns the shop and the one who responded to my FB post. So I say hi to him and ask what the scoop is, is there a general game plan. He looks at me and then my bike and tells me I don't have the right kind of bike to ride the park, I have a trail bike and this is a downhill park. Ok, then. I think I'll just get a trail map and start noodling around. See y'all out there. Weirdos. Our club has a rep of not being as welcoming as other clubs, which is a shame. We have scheduled rides, we go over the route, we ask who's new, etc. Heck, we even give out Purist water bottles! Thing is, people expect a club ride to stop at every corner to regroup, and every hilltop, which is unrealistic. It states on our website that we cater to intermediate to advanced cyclists, and that's the way it is. |

I want a 4x4 one. I want to retire and drive around the country and ride bikes. The Airstream Interstate tows 5k. I don't think we would use it, other than to use the hitch for a bike rack. As is usually how this works, the other half has to be sold. I sold her this morning.

Thanks. I have the green light. I'm ready to order stuff and I figure I'll build it with Shimano.

I merely offer some suggestions. The first is a very nicely priced Côtes du Rhône, which is easily worth 3 times the price (2015 blend: 62% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 5% Carignane, 4% Cinsault, 3% Mouvèdre; I think that all adds up). The second is a French Syrah. I love California, but I have yet to drink an California Syrah that does not disgust me (the Australian Syrahs are even worse!); they are all too sweet, lack subtlety, and taste like cough syrup (there is such a thing as terroir, you know?). Fortunatley, the French still know how to make a good Syrah. Of course, y'all may hate these because the American palate is historically tuned towards the saccharine. My dad always forbade us kids to drink soft drinks, so I blame him for my discriminating palate. Enjoy! |

Going down would be even worse. It has only 70mm drum brakes and quite a bit of weight. The brakes are adequate on the flat at speeds of up to 35kmh. Faster than that and I suspect you might run out of brakes. It is good for hauling groceries home with and keeping the rain off. And it's fine for the flat 6.5km commute I use it for. |

I cruise in my one at between 25 - 35kph depending on traffic, wind and how I feel. A stronger, fitter rider would be able to go faster. |

yes. it creates a link which isn't usable in a forum. I haven't figured out how to embed an image on a forum yet.
1) When viewing photo click on the share photo tool (upper right) 2) Copy the URL and open in browser 3) Click on that image to make it big 4) Finally copy the URL for that screen and use to post where ever |
5) At the end of the very long address there's width and height specifications ("w1200" or whatever). You can make it smaller by changing that number.
