Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Life and Times of a Pro Mechanic LottoNL-Jumbo

(explicit language context)
!SPOILER ALERT!

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/groe...bai-tour-lead/

I would really like to know what exactly went (was) wrong with his bike. I wonder if Lotto is looking for new mechanics?

You should tag this as a spoiler. I was planning on watching the stage after work. Nothing in your post indicates that the results of today's stage are in the story.

If he has as little respect for his mechanics as it would seem from this brief interview, maybe they did it on purpose.

BB? On two bikes? If BB's are now so temperamental now that pro mech's can't get it right throw in the towel.

He needs to get with Schleck to learn how to express his disappointment... "there is anger in my belly" sounds better than "F***** BOTTOM BRACKET!"

I like PF BBs. We just put the Wheels Mfg threaded outboard bearings in them and they work great/better.

... in essence making it threaded. Why not just have threads in the first place?

Specialized at least is reverting to threaded on some models like the Roubaix. They still seem to believe in the merits of BB30 for stiffness since the corresponding S-Works models use it.

Close, but not the same.
-The cups being pulled in by their center threads and clamp the BB and make it very tight. Tighter than an in-frame threaded alloy shell would be. Ridden by a rider that can torque a DA chain-ring apart, never had a squeak in any on several bikes.

-A little lighter I think (guess) to have the bare carbon shell

-No chance of ruining alloy BB threads.

-A a few more options for spindles.
The Shimano 24mm steel spindle gives a nice wide stance esp ratio of spindle dia to width.
