Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I liked my Deda tape but it's way too short. Is the Carbon line the same way?

To clarify, it really isn't much of a chore, just my least favorite of the two, the second of which is cleaning. The LBS that works on my touring bike is a 5 min. ride away from my house and my office. The road bike goes to the shop owned by the frame builder. It's a 20 min drive, but I only go there maybe 2x/year.

My LBS is 1-1/2 hour drive from my house. I like the LBS, just hate driving 3 hours round trip for bike service.

Geeze. That takes the "L" out of "LBS."

Yes it does. I had a LBS that was only a half hour drive. That LBS's owner/manager retired 3 years ago and closed his shop.

I don't know about that. I wrapped one set of bars with it myself a few years ago (still good as new, by the way, even though it was removed and re-wrapped about one year ago) and I seem to recall there being more than enough. However, the bars I have with it are fairly compact - Deda RHM 01 in one case and Superleggera in another.

re-cabling about once a year. derailleur adjustments maybe 2-3x/year...still a chore.

My least favorite task is cleaning the chain. I clean the chain off the bike - soak it in degreaser, scrub with a nail brush and rinse with hot water. Allow to dry, then lube and store in a ziplock bag. When I buy a new cassette I buy three chains at the same time. I rotate these, 500 miles at a time, so when I pull the chain I have a thoroughly cleaned replacement to put straight on. I figure that, since all the chains and the cassette wear together, I'll never be faced with matching a new chain on a comparatively worn cassette. Every 1500 miles (3 chains worth), I pull the drivetrain - chainrings, cassette, RD jockey wheels - and clean everything thoroughly.

Pump up a bit, deflate, reseat tyre, pump up a bit more, deflate, reseat tyre, ... stop when you get to max rated tyre pressure.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing.
My least favorite thing is anything to do with the chain while in the middle of a ride. That grease seems to find its way onto a jersey every time.

At the moment my least favorite is setting up the derailleur H and L limits of R8050 groupset. Can't find all the screws in the front and in the rear I can't shift into the 2 highest gears as the derailleur seems to be out of adjustment.

Saw a lot of people not enjoying cassette cleaning. I usually take mine off, zip tie them in order and then wash them in the sink.

But another thread reminded me: cleaning white bar tape.

Too often, I just give up and get new tape.

The Zipp Course white tape cleans up nicely too.

many white handlebar tapes clean up easily, but white Hudz brake/shift lever rubber is garbage. That crap sun-rots in just a few months.

Replacing the front derailleur cable...not my favorite.

I'm also not a fan of wintertime bike washing. When the dog goes out for two minutes and comes back with droolcicles, the bike gets to go in the bathtub.
