Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wheelset < $250

I'm tryna cop a wheelset (100mm+130mm rim) to replace the ~2300g wheelset I've been lugging around (Vera Corsa DPM27). I'm broke af so tryna stay under $250 (maybe up to $300) but also tryna lose ~2lbs.

1. Prime Race Wheelset (1530g - $230)
2. Aeromax Alloy Team Wheelset (1400g - $240)
3. Vuelta Corsa Super-lite (1530g - $290)
4. Vuelta Corsa Lite (1578g - $250)

Concerns:
1. Prime Race wheelset doesn't have many reviews and has rounded spokes (less aero??). Not sure on reliability.
2. Aeromax wheelset seems almost too good to be true. No reviews, though I've bought from RandomBikeParts before.
3. Doesn't seem to be much difference between the two Vueltas except weight. Anything I'm missing?

Is there anything else I should consider that's approximately $250 and weighs ~1500g? Really really looking forward to shaving off nearly two pounds.

Shimano Ultegra wheels might be close if you find a good sale.
Fulcrum Quattaros maybe?

Check your LBS's for new take offs...sometimes you can get a deal.

That is what I was going to suggest. Performance often has them on sale and if you are a member, you get points back.

They aren't the lightest wheels, but they spin really well. My wife loves hers.

You can get Fulcrum 5 LGs ~$275/1658gm or Fulcrum Quattro LG ~$310/1725gm from UK. Not superlights by any means but both very capable, bulletproof, nice riding wheelsets. I bought them on tight budget at the time and even though I could afford something more $$$ now, I see no reason to upgrade.

Mavic Aksiums... They came with my bike and have been solid for 12,000 miles (and I'm ~200 lbs +/-10)

Quattros are bulletproof, but might not be light enough for your desires (they're closer to 1800g). Not going near the aero vs weight thing here.

i've used vento for about 6 months on the road, outstanding in every way. a bit heavier than you'd like, but close enough. exactly within your price range. rock solid, perfectly true after lots of abuse.
