Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I could care less if you buy something from Excel. I get their emails and their closeout stuff is well priced at this time of the season. CC and R&A closeout pricing is also good.

I also could care less what bike you buy. Don't ask questions if you don't want opinions. You're just another person doing some Addiction handwringing. There's nothing special about your handwringing, other than it appears to get you butt hurt. I wouldn't have said anything if I knew you were buying the Moto ti.

I think you're being a pansy. Sorry.

... and thanks all!

Sorry about the acronyms ... I'm so used now to thinking in these terms that it's become automatic. @gnome and @MoAlpha pretty much said it all. Still sitting uneasily between rock and hard place, awaiting further decisions by haematologist in consultation with neurosurgeon. Leave IVC filter (sorry, inferior vena cava filter) in, take it out? Blood thinner ... yea or nay? Time will tell.

Anyway, it's been a long, and mostly lost in cycling terms, spring/summer. But in the spirit of Bicycling magazine, I'm looking forward to my "Best ... Fall ... Ever" (the season, not 'a fall' -- can't afford one of those).

And yep ... jarring, shocks, blows, etc. to the head are best avoided. Bought meself a Giro Synthe with MIPS -- won't be riding without it.

Cyclist-car crash at S. Boulder Rd and Cherryvale on my way home today. Cyclist was OK but there was a bumper and a ton of debris in the road. Riding your bike during rush hour is becoming a death wish.

I don't know if I was around for the beginning of this tale, due to my own failing memory, specifically from a concussion I suffered a little over a year ago. The memory of what happened has never returned. It was bike related though. I know well the feeling of tiptoeing around so as to not jar the head again. Not fun. And starting back into active activities only to find out it's still too soon. Have a speedy and complete recovery.

I haven't paid attention to how it's started. You can't control with what you're born with, anyway.

I do know that if I was in charge of a toddler I'd want to have it breast fed, and roll it around in the mud a lot so it gets exposed to plenty of bacteria. Also, avoid antibiotics if at all possible.

This is interesting. Guy likely saved having his colon chopped up by having fecal transplants. The future of health! @datlas

Oh dear. Are you doing better now? I get that one too; Ms. Badger suffered a pretty bad concussion a couple of years ago -- from a fall -- and is still dealing with residual effects.

It is a weird sensation overall, isn't it? One feels ... well, 'fragile' is the only way to put it, really. I've become almost absurdly self-conscious about avoiding even the most minor bumps to the head. However, other than becoming more fatigued than I'm used to if I overdo it at work or cycling etc., the residual effects appear to be pretty minimal, and I was warned about the fatigue thing so I don't find it too scary ... yet.

Hope you are doing well, and thanks for the good wishes.

I was grinding out the last part of my ride home when a man in his 60s wearing nicely pressed khakis and a tucked in long sleeve shirt passed me like I was standing still. He was pedaling, but not really. He looked like he was going out to dinner.

Next up for the CO legislature will be the ebike DUI law.

Also: we heard today that Marriott waived Right of First Refusal on the Park City week. Did I mention previously that we were trying to buy one? I can’t remember.

Anyway 2 bedroom condo, every other year usage, summer week, starting in 2020, at Marriott Mountainside, which is right at the base of Park City mountain. We close on it in a few weeks. Marriott bought the first one we made an offer on, we upped this offer by $500 and got it.

Such fun mountain biking up there.

All I have to do now is sell the Hilton Head timeshare and I’ll really be happy with the units we own.

I'm up working on an install in Japan. It's working now. They had the antenna pointed in the wrong direction (alignment was 180 deg off). I'm counting the seconds until the end of this satellite acquisition so I can call it done and go to bed.

Oh wait, wait a minute. You people clearly have been misled. That bench is 8 feet long which makes that shovel a good 4 feet wide. It takes 2 grown, brawny to push that shovel full of snow. It's a beast, and Doug would have it no other way.
