Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You know the drill ... tell us all about the cycling and other sports you've done. Post pics!! We've had some great ones posted.

Down here, it's a long-long weekend. The "holiday" is actually on a Thursday, so just about everyone takes the Friday too.

Thursday -- I went for a 2.5 km run and we did a little bit of walking too.

Friday -- Rowan and I went for a 12.9 km bicycle ride on very quiet country roads.

Then later, we were supporting a short Audax ride and while waiting for the riders, I did a 0.7 km run. Not far, but faster than usual.

Friday: 27.9 miles, 948'.
Just did a quick climb up and over a bluff, racing daylight to get off the bluff before dark. By the time I got back into town (around 6:30PM), it was completely dark and had started to rain! Average ride temp: 45F.

Saturday: 27.8 miles, 1,529'.
Another late afternoon ride, though I started early enough this time to get home before dark. We're now into the nasty second half of fall - the part that's gloomy grey and brown until the return of stupid cold, snow, and sunshine! Average ride temp: 45F (again). My high viz LBS kit made me pretty happy, despite the gloom.

Gee Rowan, I haven't been reading the road form for a long time. You've had a big setback Kinda from experience, look at the big picture and keep plugging away one day at a time. It's surprising when you look back at how far you've come.

I did one of my typical rides today from the city to the coast but instead of riding to Glenelg I extended along the coast to Holdfast Bay then back to the city. It was a little windy with a chill but had some good sections with a strong tail wind.

This is a tiny piece of a panoramic mural showing the original Luna Park before it was sold to the NSW Government. Bet most didn't know that.

Annual club picnic- large turnout & good ride & great food.

The route went some places I hadn't ridden & I managed the fastest time up the iconic ~1/2 hr climb by the GG bridge.

54, 2,600'

Needed a few days rest after last Sunday. Made up for it this weekend, with 30 miles Friday on the comfort hybrid, 35 miles Saturday on the road bike in springlike weather, and another 20 minutes on the indoor trainer and shoulder PT exercises. Busted up shoulder feeling much better the past couple of weeks, regaining range of motion, less pain at night.

And another 16 miles Sunday. Planned to do more because we had springlike weather in October, but had some aches and pains after overdoing physical therapy Saturday. Still good to get out for an easier ride.

Sat: Course set up for CX race

Sun: Playing in the mud. not my type of course being a climbing roadie but managed to hold my seeding place despite dropping my chain in a crash and having trouble getting it back on in the gloopy mud.

Sunday: 21.6 miles, 430'.
Just enough time for a short and flat out and back along the Mississippi River, mostly in Minnesota. I was trying to ride into a headwind and hit a nice tailwind on the way back, but it was all crosswind. That's what I get for trying to play the wind game!

Time for a few more photos, though These were at Dakota, MN.

Last Tuesday did the usual Davis Is. evening ride for 26 miles. Saturday had to work, so no bike riding. Sunday I rode 40 miles to Upper Tampa Bay trail and back. Monday I took off from work and did a 30 mile ride around Davis Is. in the morning. The weather finally turned cool and I had to break out the long sleeve jerseys for the first time.

It's a Coastal Gazania or (Treasure Flower) or we can just call it a Daisy I'm no botanist, I had to look that up but do love photographing flowers. I thought that was a good one just with my phone
