If you've got the time and the resources...
My in-laws would be better off as snowbirds, I think. The ol' man kvetches about how cold it is in the MN winters and how he'd be stuck inside. Meanwhile, in VA, they avoid going out all summer, because of the heat and humidity, and don't really take advantage of the milder winters, anyway.

Maybe some of them live in holes. I never see them burrowing around, though. At the time there was a woodpile they liked to hang out in.

@datlas, are you familiar with the weeds of drug/insurance pre-authorization process? Or is that something an underling takes care of?

Those things are cute, but also pests at times. When we were in Waterton Village, AB, there were so many holes in the towne campsite that you really had to take care not to step in one and twist you ankle, especially after dark. It was so cold that we slept inside one of the camp kitchen buildings. One had burrowed a tunnel into the building. We had to plug it up with a tree branch to keep it out. In the backcountry campgrounds in Glacier N.P. they dig holes in the food prep areas to pop out and scavenge the scraps of food that invariably ends up on the ground. They are smart little critters.
The burrows have multiple entrances and exists though. It would be really hard for her to ever dig out a ground squirrel. Doesn't mean she won't try though...

Chipmunks are burrowing animals that live and breed in burrows:

We use the terms chipmunks and ground squirrels interchangeably around here but I think mostly we have chipmunks.
Chipmunks are vermin in my opinion.
EDIT: posted before I saw Indy’s reply. A lot of people around here call them ground squirrels but most of the ones we see are chipmunks. We have ground squirrels, too, but way more chipmunks.

Another critter at the top of my personal vermin list is the flying pest known as the Canadian goose. I can’t believe we still federally protect them.

Next step, insurance either approves it or denies it.
Very often they deny it even if it's medically necessary in my opinion.

I send in a script. Pharmacy calls and says it's not covered and requires a precert. I and/or my staff fill out a boatload of paperwork to justify the medicine (or test).
Next step, insurance either approves it or denies it.

edit: I first wrote gabapentin which she takes, too. #confused

I sometimes even refuse to do a precert for a medicine that is under $10/month.

Pro tip: go to www.goodrx.com and check on local pharmacy prices. Many medicines are dirt cheap.

sucks. Both are off-label, but well accepted for chronic neurogenic pain. At least it’s available in generic form.

Speaking of FB, mine seems to get stuck in time occasionally. This morning, the most recent posts were from two days ago and that was consistent in my feed. I changed the news setting to 'most recent' and it still gave me only stuff from Saturday. This seems to happen from time to time. A glitch in the time continuum, I guess.

The sun came out today, in preparation for a clear, cold night. Tonight is predicted to be the coldest of the year, and tomorrow too. Thankfully there is nothing to get us up and rolling early. I will shortly go for a bike ride, probably with a base layer. This morning was spent being a farmer--always enjoyable. I had the chainsaw out, and later repaired a broken outdoor faucet. The beauty of being a farmer is not only being a farmer, but also knowing how to do everything a farmer has to know how to do.

Although in this case the cure might be worse than the disease. She digs the burrows out and makes them even bigger.

Thanks, but her doc said don't worry about it and see how the gabapentin does. She's been on it since last Thursday and she does feel better. Along with the pain is swelling and she can't make a fist but she's still working on it. It's been 4 months today since her accident.

We're ok where we live now. It's more urban and other than one scrawny rabbit and a scrawny stray cat, I haven't seen any other critters in almost 9 months.
