And I don't buy a new bike every year (because I don't covet nor have a need to collect) so all the money I save can be spent on booze and smokes.

Great job on the brifters and cover up. My OCD self would be doing the same. Several weeks ago I pulled into a parking lot to meet my ride group and stopped on an incline. Dummy me unclipped my left foot as per usual, but I was on a slope and started tipping to the right. Yep I ate pavement....as I was tipping over in slow motion, knowing my bike was going to hit pavement...and my rear derailleur was on that side, I attempted to absorb the impact with my body. Got scuffed up pretty good and was bleeding on my knee, thigh, elbow and side of my torso. Looked like I was involved in a rolling crash lol. I told the wife I was involved in a high speed crash....then told her not really, I fell over in the parking lot...then she called me an idiot Ha Ha. The good thing is I was riding my backup bike that day and just got a couple scratches on the rear-d.

Oh too anwer your question I have seen your so called custom bike guessing it cost about 5 grand or so .if u can spend that kinda money for that then u much be rich or just like wasting money

And if you must know, that was my pay off my mortgage WAY early present. I hadn't bought a new road bike in 10 years. The one I did have had corrosion issues.
Honey child. That is a custom designed, hand built, ceramic glazed (custom blend, if course) ti frame made by a two-time winner of best MTB at NAHBS. Don't know what the final cost was, in part because the wheels were moved over from my then current road bike. Plus, there was 8% sales tax. Even with the 2% for "cash," it was certainly more than $5K, but a super lot more. Overall, I think it was a great value. I would rather have one great bike made by an artisan and built up with a gruppo worthy of the frame than a bunch of mediocre bikes made in Taiwan. I mean, how many dinghies can you waterski behind, Gordon?
You failed in all respects. We have some lovely parting gifts waiting for you back stage, including a BSO which I am sure you will love.

Rich or like wasting my money? That makes no sense. It's either a waste of money or it isn't. How much money I have or don't have doesn't change whether the expenditure was a waste of money.

Finally happened.
Starting my ride, was pulled along a curb to dink around with my new computer, right foot unclipped standing on a curb, left foot clipped in. Finished setting up computer, did a slow U-turn to the left to get going, and sure enough somehow the bike started leaning left (right foot still unclipped, so of course the bike leans left instead) and I couldn't unclip and I went down with the bike.
Got pretty lucky though, no injuries, and the only damage was to the rear QR skewer (which is going to be replaced anyway with new wheels), some scuffs on the left pedal (easily replaced if I really want), and a couple small scuffs on the left brifter which is a minor drag but not the end of the world. And a small scuff on my new shoes but who cares. Frame, saddle, and even the bar tape on the left was completely untouched; I was surprised the bar tape never touched the ground.
Oh well, dumping the bike was bound to happen once and it happened exactly as expected...going 1 mph. I'm just glad I got out of it with barely any damage.

Thanks guys, glad I'm not alone. I had no pain afterwards and somehow didn't even scrape anything, and didn't find any damage on my new gloves either even. Not sure if anyone saw, I was so focused on making sure the bike was ok I didn't even look around, but I know there were people on the MUP across the street so I'm sure someone saw me.

Since I know everyone's just dying for the conclusion, got the new nameplate in today...not easy to break the screws loose without stripping, and really not easy to drop the new ones into place without losing them in the brifter innards (even with a magnetic screwdriver), but I managed to do both with no problems and the swap was successful.
EDIT: Be nice if the pic didn't have to be so damn big, but the pic uploader on this site is the worst I've ever used on any forum by far (and like no other) and about the only way it even works at all is to upload direct from device...
