Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Velo Vol here is a nice guitar based song that might be in your wheelhouse. Perhaps it will take your mind off of the weather in the quasi-north.

63 miles with a group of 5. I didn't ask one of the Garmin people how much climbing but I think about 3500 feet. The 75 year old mountain goat came with us, first time I've ridden with him in months. He had a good day chasing down random strangers on the hills. I couldn't climb with him on any climb of length.

It would be cliche to say I'd like to climb like that when I am his age but I can't do it now. The other 2 guys in our group did a century yesterday so they weren't chasing and the woman with us was just happy to be out enjoying the day with 4 stud muffins.

I don't know how anything survives outside during the winter, even here in the quasi-north, much less in dumb dumb land. Brrrr.

I'm very grateful to be able to do this stuff at this time and at my age.

Next Friday is the annual New Years Day ride. Last year a group of us did a shortened version with no mountains. I think I've done the ride 16 times and some years there is too much snow to get to the summit.

Ever consider relocating? Plenty of places have no winter.

Yep! I also pulled the red decals off. Props to P2M for having a nice surface finish underneath the decals so that it looks okay without them
I have black ones, so they’re invisible. No idea why they thought decals were necessary at all.

I'm going over the contents of the box of the woodworking jig, and the guy had included a couple of the original promo booklets. Inside of one of those booklets was a printout from a woodworking forum from 2003. The printout is a glowing review of the jig from one of the forum members - it sure looks like it was what sold him on the piece. Which one of us has posted a review, of a bike or wheelset or whatever, that has been printed off and brought to the LBS, by an enthusiastic customer, only to be found in the (unused) product's box, almost two decades later? This Mysterium fellow should be proud of himself.

Every year.

I don't have the means to maintain two residences, and who wants to live in Florida year-round?

Probably cheaper to get a second house in west Texas than Fla. Check out San Angelo or Odessa, for instance.

I was perusing Zillow San Antonio yesterday and this one caught my eye:

Truck goals: Truck must be 1/3 the size of your house

I prefer to stay on the north of the Tennessee River, but I'd be flexible enough to consider moving to the south side under the right circumstances.
