We had a significant cicada invasion in 2013, just 8 years ago, apparently a different brood.

So last night I dropped the dog's leash as I was walking in the house so I bent over to pick it up and somehow ended up running my finger along the door jamb and managed to lodge a splinter super deep underneath my fingernail.
I wasn't quite sure if it was actually a splinter or if I just jammed the crap out of my finger so I opted for my very favorite medical treatment: ignore it and hope it will go away.
Surprisingly that did not work. This morning I went to an urgent care clinic. Doctor shot me with a local anesthetic and dug it out in about 30 seconds. But the it's sure making it hard to type and make sure I meet my Friday deadline on these projects.
I just wanted to make sure everyone else could enjoy the mental image of jamming a splinter under their fingernail. I wouldn't want to be selfish and keep that all to myself.

If I thought I could've got it myself I would've tried, but in this case I didn't have a clue as to how I would've even started because there was no way to reach it, especially by myself with my non-dominant hand, and I don't have the proper equipment at any rate. Was in and out of urgent care in maybe 45 minutes from the time I walked in the door.

I read that cicadas are a tasty morsel for copperheads.
