Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I jinxed myself a couple days ago talking about a) My wife and I making coffee in separate machines, and b) My preference for glass carafes.

So yesterday I accidentally cracked the glass carafe on my coffee machine, rendering the machine useless. So this morning here we are sharing coffee from the same coffee machine and wondering why we were using separate machines in the first place.

It sounds like she's going to go for one of those $300+ machines, and since she's buying I have no qualms with it.

Another chilly start to today’s ride. I see I missed out on the podium but tops in elevation.

That puts the COLD in cold comfort.

Got an email from Zwift yesterday, about my Zwift Academy results:

46 years ago in High School, I ran track. I was a sprinter. Apparently that hasn't changed. I did well above average (for Zwift Academy) on the Short and Medium segments, but below average on the Long segment. Guess I'll be sticking to the virtual crits!

Hey MoAlpha, I'm listening to another podcast (#P&R alert: Dispatch, Ben Sasse) and he said we've learned more about the brain through imagining in the last 20 months than everything we knew before 20 months ago.

Is that right?

Hamilton, ON is too close to America to be goofing around with Britishisms.

I like the superscript "n", so the frenchies don't think it's Canadian Tire Body.

My son got his day at the Porsche Experience demo day that was in town. He seemed pretty elated.

How old is your son? What's he driving, a Boxster?

He’s 22. We drove the 911S, Cayman GTS, and Taycan 4S on the track. Also drove Macau’s on the street, and did some short off-road stuff in the Ceyanne. Little tastes of various cars. The film was in a 911S.

Drove all those on the same day? That would be quite an experience.

All in about 3 hours this morning. It was fun. Not enough track time though.

As jaded and burned out as I am on cars, I think I would enjoy that. I have driven a 930 when I worked at a shop where we modified them a bit. I've never driven a car on a track.

It’s fun, but requires a skill set. But, even having never done it, you would enjoy it. I was never real good, and now I’m pretty rusty. I’m old and slow on bike and in car.

Here’s my filmed lap - plenty of missed lines:

I don’t know what findings that statement refers to, but it sounds silly. What’s the unit of learning and how do we gauge the significance of what’s learned? …unless they’re referring to our work, in which case, yup.
