Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No doubt she was impressed by your aplomb, walking into a door and all.

I made family history by closing a station wagon tailgate on my daughter’s head for the same reason. LSS made it a teachable moment about boys.

At least I have four other hiking stoves to choose from so it's not super urgent.
When daughter was there, packages between the US and Ireland and Iceland took months to arrive and were virtually untraceable.

Anyone using a Garmin 1030? Picked one up to try since, quite frankly, I find it hard to read the 520 while on the bike and hard to hear the Varia tone while moving. The 1030 is just so much bigger. Not sure if I like that.

It is. Afternoon even. only 2 more hours of work to the weekend. And it's sunny and warm. I may just have to take the long way home tonight if the winds remain light.

Took the Ironman out for the shakedown cruise. Stopped after 1/4 mile to raise the saddle about 1/2 cm. It may still need to come up just a tad, but I'm not sure.

Impressions: This thing runs damn near silent. No drivetrain noise, no clicking/creaking BB, no cable slap, very quiet freewheel. Shifts way better on the road than on the stand. Rides comfy AF. Stable as a rock. Encourages high cadence and rewards efforts. Late 80s single pivot brakes with appropriate levers are really nice. Maybe not as nice as dual pivots, but two fingers on each lever work fine. I could probably panic-stop from the hoods.

All in all, I'm very pleased! I did discover one small problem - it does not diminish my "Rock and Pothole Magnet" superpower. About 8 miles in, I hit a rock or something and pinchflatted. However, even though I went with naked bars, I was NOT dumb enough to go without a pump and a tube. A few minutes work and I was back on the road.

Here's the promised picture.

I didn't have time to set it up with valves and cranks properly aligned, in Biggie Smalls, without bottle and bags, because by the time I got back to the car, it was already this time:
